Controller mod

Post by Ragnarok »

Hello, I need some help with this mod, I wanted to had a bright white LED on a dreamcast controller, located in the VMU window, so I can see the VMU screen clearer, it's a preety cool idea, since sometimes I wanna see the info on the VMU and I can't, being that there isn't enough light in the room or I simply want to play with the lights out, so, I need to know where on the PCB can I solder the LED, I haven't opened it yet, I figured I'd place this post here before anything.

I meant in the controller not the VMU, imagine a VMUless Contoller, and it has a LED on the window where you can see the VMU (although in this example there isn't a VMU) that is what I meant, I'm going to look aroud that site you gave me ;)

I'm not quite sure what you mean. Do you just want an LED sticking out of the controller in front of the VMU?

Best way:

Find the 2 wires coming from the dreamcast to the controller that are ground and voltage in.
drill hole where you want the led
hotglue led in place, after having soldered 2 wires to it.
Connect the ground wire to a switch.
drill hole for switch
mount switch
Attach switch's wire to ground in
attach + voltage to led

win.

Thx a buch :P I'll get on it as soon as I get a white LED, I might try to connect one of the LEDs I have lying around, just to see and later replace it with a white LED ^^

White LED's consume a considerable more amount of power than red LED's. You should look online to see if you're going to need a resistor or not.

Yeah I'll check on that.
