Which Linux Distro?
I might switch to Linux, and I'm wondering- which distro should I get? I was considering Ubuntu, but I'm not sure.
I don't want to make an "I'm leaving" thread, but I've sort of lost interest in this board. So if you notice that I'm gone, that's why.

If Windows does everything you want it to, don't bother. Linux is completely different and requires a lot of learning before you can do anything fancy with it. I would disagree, there are many advantages of using linux in certain situations, but unlike some people, I don't think it's appropriate in all situations.daguuy wrote:I really don't see any advantages of linux over windows though, it just can't do everything a computer is supposed to do.

If you feel pressed to try out linux (it's not too bad if the wireless would just work...), then try this distro chooser where you do a quiz that tries to give you the best choice of distro.

Ubuntu is the best distro for new people. If you're not very knowledgeable about using Linux in general go with Ubuntu.
It has Synaptic, for downloading programs and updates.
Uses .deb, a package system that helps avoid dependency hell.
Ubuntu has a large number of forums that you can go to ask questions.
If you find you don't like the whole Gnome setup that Ubuntu uses, you can go and download the KDE setup called Kubuntu. So you have some easy ways to add variety.
