Hey, new guy here. I've never actually done much in the way of modding before (i.e. practically nothing) but I'm really, really interested in giving it a shot. I own two Wonderswan Color portables, but there's a serious problem with both of them: the cheap, flimsy screens that Bandai put in these things have broken. Each one quicker than the last, in fact. They broke some time ago, but if I turn them on, the sounds all play and everything, indicating that the hardware is otherwise intact.
So what I'm thinking I would like to do is one of these two ideas. Either I would like to dissect these things and put in new, more durable screens, possibly coming up with a sturdier case redesign in the process. Or, another thought, that I may want to do the opposite of what Ben Heck does and turn the portable into a very small console of some sort.
Which of these two options would be more difficult? (I'm going to guess the latter, but I've been surprised about electronics before.) And what help or information might any of you fellows be able to lend me? Any would be greatly appreciated, especially since I really liked the games I had for them.
Wonderswan Color help?

Ah yeah, the screen. I'd actually had that same thought after I posted, regarding it being non-standard, and I had a hunch that it was indeed. And I'm guessing that with a screen like this, I can't just replace it with any old screen, and it needs to be the same aspect ratio or some such if I do go that route?
If I chose to go the second route, what abouts would I need to look into for putting the audio and video out to AV cables, as well as converting the power source to a wall plug (DC converter plug or whatever) and maybe going as far as to seperate the actual gameplay hardware and the controller to make it look and function like a regular console?
