The main problem is the fact that that you don't have a defined enemy. They don't have a real army, government or form. They are just radicals that randomly pop up. That is why I dare not even think of going over there. I will only fight if an enemy encroaches on my territory and threatens my people. However I will not serve the government, the enemy of my government is not my concern, it is the enemy of my people. I protect my people from harm and make sure that their lives don't go through any excessive stresses.
But as for Iraq. That is another mess in itself. It was the terrorist group that attacked us and so we moved in to find them. Months later we magically appear in Iraq, and for what reason? To get Saddam? I don't care what they say about finding weapons of mass destruction, it was nothing more than an excuse for getting Saddam. I mean yes he was a tyant, but the priory was to obliterate the terrorist group before it struck again. The priorities of the government is somethng to be questioned.
Army Strong.

And about the glory stuff, people don't want you to go somewhere and fight. What do you think all the anti-war stuff going on is about? To be brutally honest, when soldiers die, they're viewed as statistics. You won't be remembered by many people and since you die, you don't get to defend much freedom. If you don't die, you'll only make more enemies and that does not bring you respect and praise and stuff. This might be me being a heartless bastard, but I consider people who join the army to go fight in the middle east (which is what happens if you join the army in this state of the world) foolish. There's no hope for peace ever in the middle east because it has significant religious history (not to mention oil, but i'll try to stay away from politics) and people always have and always will fight to the death to control it.
Why do you think the army advertises to teenagers? One reason is because they're strong and full of energy, but mainly because they make more rash decisions than older more fully developed people and don't fully understand the seriousness of death and going to war. They view it as action, being a hero, and glory when in reality, you're fighting for a person with an agenda.
But if you're willing to risk everything to slightly improve a resume, go ahead.
What you said right there, pissed me off. Someone that went to my highschool 3 years ago, died and every in the town put yellow ribbons over like everything to commemorate, and respect him. Dude. That right there, is my defination of respect and glory.
Heck, I went to other towns like 45 mins from me, and they had ribbons also.
Racist/Nationalist much? I dont want all these arguements in my thread. I also dont care if people are black, white, brown, green, blue, ect ect. Everyones the same inside. Like heck, no need use racial slurs to define people who live in iraq and such.daguuy wrote:It's all about the situation in the world today. Back then, we had to defend against the nazis, japs and king george. Today, there's a bunch of towel heads fighting over the middle east and it doesn't involve us. I guess you could do stuff that isn't gonna get you killed, but there's nothing at the moment that the army can defend against. The only enemies we have just want us to leave. And the whole "kill the terrorists" thing is BS. We lost more people in the war than we did from terrorist attacks, not to mention making more terrorists. The army can't defend us from these things.
My questions havnt really been awnsered either.

No, I love life. Dont get me wrong. Its just, dying for your country doesnt mean what you said daguuy.
I was just saying, when someone died from my town everyone knew. Everyone still knows. Hes not gonna be forgotten. Sure, its another person dead, but they still live on in our memories.
If you understand that. Someone dying isnt just a statistic. Its a tragedie.

I am going to be the voice of reason here and lock this thread, what it all boils down to is you cant have a discussion of war or the military without it eventually boiling down into political crap, i already have my opinions and beliefs about the situation in iraq and our government but this IS NOT THE PLACE TO TALK ABOUT IT. if anyone disagrees or wants to talk about it im me.
