If you wanna be HARDCORE and completely administer your own web server with a great internet connection, I would suggest linode.com. For $20 a month, you get a Virtual Private Server with 3gigs of space and 25gigs of transfer a month. Your VPS is guaranteed to perform at least like a 100mhz machine. But that speed is burstable to 100% of the host's CPU if other VPSs on the host aren't working as hard. You get to choose which distro of Linux you want, how you want your hard drive space partitioned. It's great because you have complete control. Install whatever you want, X windows and KDE even which you could access through VNC. I had a VPS with linode for over a year and I was very happy.
Damn, I know I just sounded like some spokesman for linode.com but it's seriously nice if you have Linux admin skillz.
