I-35W Bridge Collapse, Minneapolis, Minnesota

Just happend just about 2 hours ago at the time of this posting. The I-35W Bridge I-35W Bridge in Minneapolis Minnesota has collapsed. It collapsed at 6:09pm CDT. The bridge spanned the Mississippi River. Three confirmed deaths at the time of this posting. The bridge is 40 years old exlaty. The bridge was opened in 1967. If any of you guys were there when it happend, or was near by. Please tell us what you saw if you did see anything. Please pray guys for people that were on the bridge when it happend. Geez don`t they at least have people inspect these high traffic bridges. And if they do, some lazy copulate didnt do their job.

I don't think it's fair to blame this on anyone, sometimes these things just happen.

I'm a Minnesota native, and have been on this bridge a few times before (though I don't go north of downtown Minneapolis very often, so I'm not exactly a frequent traveler of that bridge)

The bridge was inspected both in 2005 and 2006, and there wasn't anything major found. It's possible that they weren't doing a good job, yes, but that bridge has been under construction for a while. In fact, just last weekend they had the bridge closed because of construction. Actually, I was going up on 35W last week and took the first part of the detour when that was happening (I wasn't going to go up to the bridge anyway, and part of the detour happened to be my planned route). Anyway, I'm sure that this was mostly because of the construction (who knows what they were doing) and the hot weather we've been having (which, when combined with our winters, leads to heavy wear on our roads).

I live in minnesota and im pretty sure that there are 4 other bridges EXACTLY the same in minnesota and one of them i travel on everyday. Also some bridges today were made in the 18th centory and were not made to support as much weight as they are supporting and they were only suppost to be in use for like 60 years or so!

Oh yeah, what part? I'm from the southern part of the metro, sorta near the airport/Mall of America. Now I'm going to school out in Wisconsin, though.

Oh, and I think you meant the 1800s, not the 18th century. 18th century = 1700s, when I don't think there was really anybody around

I cross one of the exactly same bridges nearly everyday also. Very ironic what happened, would almost have to be terrorist related if it happened again so soon, so I don't worry... too much.
