Virtual Reality!

Post by Super Cameraman »

Hey, I made an instructable based off an idea on had while on here! It's how to make a "cheap" VR "headset" out of a mouse and a video camera!

Check it out!

Neat! Next you should make one based off a helmet. (Duct tape the mice to a bike helmet and put a small screen on the end of a rod of some sort, also taped to the helmet?)

Or better yet, something you hold like a flight sim yoke! (5-7" screen in the middle, gyro mouse cradle on the back, and it's a USB controller so you can pull the trigger to fire. :D

You found a Gyration mouse at Circuit City for only 40 bucks?! The only one I saw there was $140! :(

Wow man, that thing's pretty neat! Definitely very creative, it's nice to see new ideas in a rather dry time for modding...

By the way, this really belongs in the News section, seeing as it is a completed project, and it deserves to be up on the pedestal with the rest of the finished mods!

Thanks for comments again! I didn't think it was that great of an idea.

To answer some of your questions that I forgot to look at:

The helmet idea would be okay, but wouldn't the screen be a pain to look at?

Now the flight sim yoke... Why not just a light gun? But then take out the light gun part of it, and put in a gyro mouse, and somehow attach a screen to it... Anyone got a screen they'd like to sell?

Yeah $40 is a REALLY good deal. I had no idea at the time.

It's pretty awesome to play with, but my viewfinder is black and white, so I can't make out the difference between my team and the other team. (My team has green arrows above their heads, the enemy has red.)

It was really weird how I thought it up. First I had the mouse taped to a hat. It was fun... in a way, but wasn't really easy at all. Next, I got an idea on the forums when someone posted those video goggles. They were really expensive, so I thought to myself, "What's a cheaper alternative?" And I saw my old video camera sitting there!

I don't have a camera (or a gyro mouse) :( That's a really cool idea though.
