Nintendo DS Homebrew?

Post by Thegamer3000 »

I want to do homebrew on my DS but I don't have a clue how to do it? Could somebody tell me the best way to do it?

Also how is the DS at emulating... NES, SNES, and Sega Genesis?

Will it ever be perfect?

I have a Flash card called the EZ-Flash V. I think it's fine, and it was "cheap" and it fits in slot 1. It used microSD cards.

NES is okay, but the screen is too small and it has to scale it. I've played Galaga and a few Mario games and they work fine.

SNES... well... not really. It works, but it's just annoying to play because I've NEVER gotten a SNES game to run up to speed without glitches. Some glitches I get are things like menus not working, but you can still use them. Like you need to remember, "okay, I want something that's the third thing on the menu... down down down a". It's really annoying. Also, layers are messed up a lot. Like the bushes in Super Mario World are on top of mario. It's like he's stalking...

Genesis.. never tried.

Why not do homebrew for the GP2x? Uses ARM. The GP2x is designed for homebrew and emulators and has a wide audience.

What do you think about this?

http://www.modmyds.com/supercard-lite-w ... -p-53.html

But if I get that I'll alos need to get this right? http://www.modmyds.com/superkey-p-49.html

That way nothing will stick out anywhere!

But... would it be just as good an cheaper to just get this? http://www.modmyds.com/r4-ds-slot-1-micro-sd-p-72.html

My main concern is Mp3, and emulators... that's all I really want.

The DS is capable of emulating the NES,SNES,and Sega Genesis perfectly right? It's just the programmers that are lacking correct? So if I waite a little bit there will be improvements?

Right now, the best SNES emulator did not impress me. Text was under the sprite layer.

As for a flash hardware item, I have a sueprcard, and it's crazily simle to use. I think they even have a version that pops into the DS slot, no other items needed.

Possible is the key word. Most emulators are ports of the same thing for the PC, with poor optimization (just get a GP2X already.)

I think the R4 is a great option, I love it for back ups.I do think I love my gp2x for emus the most because they are so fantastic. And I like my psp pretty much just for the psone emulation.

NES=Perfect for almost all games for Earthbound Zero, run it on your PC then transfer the save file. Use NESDS.
SNES= Good, a lot of games are slower than 60fps, some have glitchy graphics but are usually fixable, and most games with a coprocessor thing (Yoshi's Island, Mario Kart, Star Fox, etc) won't work. Use SNEmulDS.
Genesis= Almost perfect, few games go lower than 55fps, but one thing. NO SOUND. Use JenesisDS.

Hopefully soon JenesisDS will have sound, which then imo would be perfect, NES is basically already perfect, most emulators on the DS are almost perfect.

I'd recommend the R4DS/M3Simply (Same thing), and or an Ez-flash 3-in-1 (RAM for Opera and some homebrew, rumble for some games, and GBA)

MP3 on the DS using Moonshell is perfect.

Yeah get the R4DS. I think it's the best value for your money.
