Show Us Your Weapon!!!

Post by CronoTriggerfan »

Every crusader of the unknown has his trusty sword! And for us modders, it's a soldering iron! :P

I've gone through two; a 25-watt Weller iron that crapped out on me after 2 weeks of use, and my trusty ol' RadioShack iron that died when a kid threw a wool suit on it. I just picked up this thing this afternoon, hopefully it works out as well as that old RatShack one did. Oh, and of course, I have a pair of Helping Hands as a sheath!

So, what iron do you guys use? Links, pictures, reviews, stories, etc. are all welcome!

first one was an OLD weller that worked great till my tip got to the point i couldnt use it anymore, tips are impossible to find for this specific weller

second was a crappy ass walmart iron that the tip somehow broke off inside then the second crap walmart one died

then i got a chinese one off of ebay that was so cheap the handle could burn you just holdin it

now i have a nice radioshack one that i got at a garagesale for 50 cents

I have a 15/30w one from Radioshack, its pretty nice. I need to reload on desoldering braid and get a desoldering iron, I haven't been able to do much since I ran out of braid a while back.

CTfan that iron you just got is the same kind that was my brothers a few years (5 or 6)before me and it was later my first iron. I miss that thing it was so easy to get tips for but it just died on me one day. I liked that one the best of all the ones I've had.

then I got some orange weller, and now I have a 15 watt UL :? I dunno if that is the brand

I wanna buy a decent soldering station soon though, but nothing to fancy
when life gives you lemons make flux

I got an orange weller! Tim filed the tip down weird and now it's almost gone, and they're special screw on tips!

It hasn't died on me yet, but I haven't had it for long. I was getting sick of the radio shack irons lasting 2-3 months then quitting, especially with the constant soldering that goes on in my house.

yea you cant really file weller tips, their just copper cored and nickel plated so when you file em the just kinda disolve over time and become useless

Unless I get some nickel and re-plate it!

Also, could a mod move my time crisis thread to the ps2 forums, it's more active there, and the thread is now pretty much about the ps2 version of the game.

Pace ST 25. It's nice, it has adjustable temperature (not wattage, actually the temp).
I'd imagine right now you wish you were a cuttlefish...

Weller WES51 adjustable temp iron. Best birthday gift ever! Let the jealousy commence. :P

Now you know how I can keep from effin up those Super Joy 3's so easily. If it's a thin trace, I set it low heat, and if its a large trace, higher heat. Oh, and I use LOTS of flux. Makes any job easy as pie.
