Amazing-sound PS1?

Post by So Many Kinds of Bagels »

I found some PS1s on eBay that were rediculously overpriced. I noticed they all bragged about the same model-number and amazing audio CD playback, or something like that. Anyone know the history of this?

Were they third party? A link would help.

I remember hearing something about the very first model playstation (IIRC) having better audio quality for CDs than many CD players, so audiophiles are starting to grab them up

Gannon is correct, apparently, after leaving the system on for about 3 days and then playing CD's produced better sound than some of the most expensive CD players.

I looked into this once and someone tested this theory and actually said the later composite PSXs had better sound, or at least that the difference was negligible. Bottom line, no, it is not better than a high end built-for-audio-CD CD player. Think about it, if Sony had the technology to make great sounding CD players for hundreds or thousands less than the competition, don't you think they would?

When you think about it, if they did have the technology to make great CD players for cheap, why would they sell them for less? Because then they could sell them for just as much as other companies, but make a ton more profit.

I had one before and sold it when I heard that news. I never noticed spectacular sound on it, and only sold it for $25, so it's not much of a big deal.
