That's the one system you don't want to do that w/. N64 mobo's die easily.

What if I wan't to test and see if it still works, befor I spend 100's of dollars on equipment and solder it all on, to find out it was dead.

yeah, make sure you're not running it on something that could even bridge static electricity-- like carpet-- though.

sure you can just make sure you do it on a sheet of plastic or with it in the bottom half of its case

Yeah you'll be perfectly fine, I've done it plenty of times, especially to test if it's still working lol..

It's fine. If it's gonna die just by doing that, it certainly won't live long enough to be portablized. Some are tougher than others and if it's tough enough to be portablized, it can survive pretty much anything. I threw the mobo for mine across the room when i got mad at it and it still worked after that.
