Microsoft Surface

Post by Steve-o »

What do you guys think? It kind of seems gimmicky, and I don't think it will take off right away.
PSp is about 70% done, just have to do the controller and case.

Like a lot of Microsoft products/projects it has a lot of potential, but they just have a unique ability to screw things up. The only other thing they made it into and really looks bad is that they're removing the whole keyboard interface, well that can be great you're making people lazy. It took me 'til I was 20 to learn how to type if something like this Surface takes off typing will become a lost skill.

Oh and the whole thing is built on Vista.... very bad!

It's really lame. It won't take off, I guarantee you. It's big, clumsy, and who the HELL would actually use the damn thing as a table? I mean, that's like taking your LCD off the wall and eating dinner on it. It's just plain gimmicky, if you ask me.

You're a dork, they said themselves that they're targeting resorts and restaurants as consumers. I think it would be pretty cool as a dinner table actually. :P

Actually when I saw it first the thing that popped in my head was how much it looks like those old arcade table setup. Those are really cool to sit down at and yeah if you have to eat, you can play waiting on your food or drinks. Which I'll admit the Surface can do but it's over-kill as far as what it can do and what it's meant to do. Really what's the point of the whole clothes thing and the download camera feathers?

I think it looks stupid, but I can't wait for multiple touch monitors.

Now if they had just placed the screen at and angle, it could be exactly like the consoles they use in all the Star Trek series from TNG onwards (excluding Enterprise). (except it would crash all the time and not take voice commands well because it's running an MS OS).

You're referring to LCARS, BTW, which actually looks pretty disappointing compared to what we can do now...

I don't want to make an "I'm leaving" thread, but I've sort of lost interest in this board. So if you notice that I'm gone, that's why.
