Think, perhaps, they'll be at MGC?benheck wrote:I think the target is around $75. If it didn't have a screen it would a LOT less, but a screen is cool.

EDIT: Wow, looks like the emulation got a boost! It now supports NES, Sega Master System/Game Gear, and the MSX, to name a few. So it would seem 8-bit is a sure bet!

The website says that it runs using a reconfigurable FPGA. A microcontroller (probably a PIC or AVR) reads the SD card, configures the FPGA with the right verilog/vhdl, and loads the ROM into ram. I see how it can be very cheap. I'd imagine they implement the RAM right in the FPGA to save cost. I'd imagine < SNES could be simulated (it's not emulation per se.)
I think the $75 target price is good.
Any idea how many gates the FPGA will have? An FPGA seems like a fairly fun toy to play with, and getting one in a fun little toy is even better. Edit:300K gates. The site isn't the easiest to navigate, and the itty-bitty column of text in that section isn't the most readable... Have you considered hiring a web designer?

of course I missed the link to the official site--I would do something like that.
for $75 I'm on board if it ever comes out. If they get everything they say working, I might be willing to go twice that depending on how well it works out. I wonder how well the screen will handle atari's high res, phony color mode when 800 gets implimented. I want my pinball and lode runner construction sets working...
