Gameport
Heh that looks pretty nice actually. One thing though, hows it legal? Roms are illegal to have and use, so really how would this be legal?
Other than that, great idea. Like seriously playing those games on the fly, is just like a portable but easier.
What does everyone else think?

I think it's OK, but I think that a 320x240 screen would be better. Sega Genesis would require very little borderness, and other consoles almost always fit within those boundaries.
I like the design though. I think it should have more of the SNES-style layout on the right side, though.
How much will it cost?

Re: Gameport
Is it just me, or did half this thread get deleted? WTF is the Gameport, anyways?

No, not really.
Meh, it all depends on the price point. The device seems to be pretty underpowered...
Even though the main page says it can push 200Mhz overclocked, I don't know how stable that would be on such weak hardware. And though it offers picture viewing, music, etc., there's no word of a movie playing function. Even if, with time, one would come via an open-source community, it'd still be nice to have the function built in. The possibility of 8 and 16-bit console emulation, as stated on the main page, is somewhat intriguing, though. Meh, if it's under $100, it might be a worthwhile purchase to a hardcore retro fan, but seeing as many of us own a DS/PSP/GP2x to do emulation on, there's really no reason unless you're new to the scene. The main system clock is 28.64 Mhz(NTSC) / 35.46 Mhz(PAL).

If it emulates either/or SNES/Gen, I'd buy it hands down! Only reason I hadn't bought a GP2X is because I'm cheap!

I highly doubt that the USB port that the Game Port uses could be adapted for a keyboard. If it were possible that would really open up the number of Apple II, Commodore64, and Atari computer games. Again I doubt the USB that it uses is a host and so can't be used. Though on the plus side the Game Port isn't 100% done so there is a slim possibility that it could have that added, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

I'm sure that nobody's going to design something like this without at least a couple fairly versatile old school serial buses. not if they want it to do anything.Sparkfist wrote:I highly doubt that the USB port that the Game Port uses could be adapted for a keyboard. heck, a little tweaking and the thing's got room for a tiny pda/cellphone style keyboard right on it, which would be nice. because if it could handle apple2, c64 or atariXL/XE and I'm on board even if its cost were pretty unreasonable. I was even mulling over emailing in and pricing a c64 pda.
isn't there even a joystick-based file interface for c64. I seem to recall spotting one. Still, unless this does something pretty magical, I don't even see it comming out. I do agree though, if it doesn't do a better job than my lousy 2x, why buy it? cost? accurate hardware based emulation? ease of use?

Think about what you're saying. Would you pay hundreds more for a weaker system? GP2X is already in the N64/Neo-Geo range.

thats exactly what I was thinking.CronoTriggerfan wrote:Are you serious?atari2600a wrote:GP2X is already in the N64/Neo-Geo range.GP2x couldn't even DREAM of playing N64. There's not even an emulator out there for it. Honestly, a device that has no dedicated 3D processor and lags terribly on PSX is not going to be playing N64, well, ever. Not to mention the Neo Geo and N64 aren't even in the same "range", as you have stated. They're in completely different generations with completely different hardware specs.
