Honestly, people. Every few years Nintendo diehards and peer-pressured friends of superfans have to shell out a couple hunded for Nintendo's "next big innovation". Big freakin' deal it's a touch screen. Bigger freakin' deal it's a motion sensing device.
I'd choose Dreamcast any day of the week over Nintendo's system because Sega bothered to put muscle into a tiny box and deliver maximum bank for the buck. Nintendo has squeezed adapted 6-year old hardware with the most minimal improvements possible into a sleek white case. Somehow I'm expected to pay $250 dollars for a Gamecube with a motion sensor? Heck no!
Dreamcast in 1999 > Wii in 2006
And for the record, as nuch as I hate Nintendo over-hype, I despise Sony with their ULTRA-OVERHYPE that killed the wonderfull white box.

Yes and for the same reasons I bought a Gamecube. To play Games of the Nintendo Franchise.bicostp wrote:I have a rhetorical question for the Wii advocates:
If the Wii did NOT have the wave-around controller and instead came with a traditional gamepad, but was otherwise identical to the way it is now, would you still buy it? (By "identical" I mean processor, memory, price, and capabilities. In this scenario there is no motion sensing controller at all, first party or otherwise.)

I don't own any of the 3 systems but that question is loaded.
What if the ps3 was the LEAST powerful, would you still buy it?
or
What if the 360 came out a year after Wii and PS3, would you have waited for it?
I just think Nintendo was very bold to try something so differently than what had been done before. You can't be mad that it worked in their favor, it just as easily could have scared everyone away from their new console.

I was just thinking about wii. now, I'm not a super wii fan, but nintendo has really done something with wii. if you notice the use of the term 'appeals to the casual gamer' has previously only been applied to consoles that were total flops. cdi, 3do, nuon--total flops and I'm sure there are more I'm unable to think of.
nintendo actually seems to be floating one. bravo. and it's all thanks to that crazy controller.
perhaps the reason I'm not into wii is just that I am not a 'causual' gamer--but rather an obsessive one.

I know I would, but I know a lot of people that wouldn't have had.bicostp wrote:I have a rhetorical question for the Wii advocates:

In my head, Nintendo is better than Sega because it delivers new ideas (I don't care if they've been done before, they deliver) with a cheap price. That's what sets them apart from any other gaming company.
For anyone who's mad at the so called "Nintendo-hype" or "Sony-hype," it only exists because there are people to point it out. And if there is a real hype, it's a hype for a reason (because the product is good).

(Though, the Dreamcast has received 10.6 million sales over the past 7 years. We'll see how the other three consoles measure up to it then.

Considering that the Wii mote is the Wii's main point of interest, how about I ask you, If the xbox 360/ PS3 did NOT have the graphics and processor power, but was otherwise identical the way it is now, would YOU still buy it?bicostp wrote:I have a rhetorical question for the Wii advocates:

See your argument can be applied almost word for word to Wii owners argument.

Then in that case would you buy a Wii sans Wiimote for $600?Motoman wrote:Considering that the Wii mote is the Wii's main point of interest, how about I ask you, If the xbox 360/ PS3 did NOT have the graphics and processor power, but was otherwise identical the way it is now, would YOU still buy it?![]()

Howabout wimote=fun? Ever noticed how most gamers only care about how their systems compete with the systems of other fan bases? Jesus christ, you don't need to wave it around like a spaztastic child; a small flick will do too.dman762000 wrote:ok well lets put it this way, if we are cutting down the "Wii" quite frankly it has probably the stupidist control on the planet, lets look at this objectivly, the majority of gamers do not want to be up bouncing around the room, and i am not talking about hyperactive little 6 yo kids, i am talking older gamers, how often playing your favorite games do you roam around the room with the controler in hand acting out the game, hush wii fanboys, most serious gamers like to sit down into a well-worn dent in the couch and only move their thumbs for a couple of hours, or days depending on how serious you are, so wiimote=stupid.
So instead of wiimote=stupid, think. Putting numbers after your name=stupid.

It was useless.Twisted Warthog wrote:HEY! Dont you ever make fun of the Pwnage Glove it was and still is the shizznit.
I don't get this whole Nintendo/Sega/MS/Sony fanboy crap, well I do, but it's unreasonable. I didn't like XBox originally 'cause I loved my PS2, but once I got one and played it, it was one of my favourite systems. Genesis and NES have always been my favourites, they've been sitting beside each other for the last 16 years.
Can't people just like good consoles regardless of who made them?

Well I say that Dreamcast was the mark of the modern age of gaming. Online community, graphics that didn't look like a stack of Legos, incredibly inovative peripherals. It's just that PS2 was riding the PS1 wave as is the PS3. But the Wii is a different story, it was designed to be a family fun device. Like the Famicom/NES, just to get out there and stuff some new ideas into the market.

I'd like to see if overhype (I mean overhype, the kind a system doesn't deserve, not normal hype) and sheer power can beat a system from a company with a bad reputation.Skyone wrote:I know I would, but I know a lot of people that wouldn't have had.

So here's my proposal: Sony has untill November 17th, 2013 to sell 10.6 million PS3s.

Why is everyone bagging on all the systems? Well I kinda did bag on Nintendo, but c'mon guys. Why doesnt anyone think this is cool? I think I only see one person that is with the Dreamcast in this whole post. I thought at least a few people would think its cool. I guess nobody on this forum except dkap, Gump-in-space, and I still appreaciate the Dreamcast......
