World of World-War-II-craft
In the latest podcast [number 18], at 14:34, Jones mentions that they should make a WWII game where you play on the Germans' side, and later, Ben suggests World of World-War-II-craft.
The good news is: It already exists!
World War II online is a MMOFPS set in 1940-42 World War II Europe.
You can fight in either British, French, or German forces (there's no Nazi-oriented stuff, though).
Haven't tried it yet, but it looks interesting.

According to (I think) what I've read (on wikipedia), you don't play as the Nazis. You play as the Germans.
Wikipedia wrote:The general organization of the forces is historical. The exception is that the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei (Nazi Party), the Schutzstaffel (SS), the Geheime Staatspolizei (Gestapo) and the swastika are not part of the game and any innuendo concerning these elements is against the terms of service for obvious reasons.

There's this racist kid in my Video Production class that always plays on the Nazi's side in Wolfenstein LAN parties, so yeah, there IS an audience for that, although small...

I would have thought most people would want to play as the Germans. Kind of like how civil war reenactments have trouble getting people on the union side and star wars freaks have trouble finding people who aren't wearing stormtrooper outfits. I'm hearing a bit of 'uptight' in this thread.
I think the reason they cut the nazi stuff out of the game has as much to do with balancing teams as not upsetting people. way too many people would be trying for those german special unit classes. Unless I missed a memo and nazis in video games suddenly became 'not okay.'
but why game in a boring role? Life is fun on the wild side and a game is still just a game. I don't think anybody had more fun playing xwing than they did playing tie fighter. 'eliminate all civillian transports' is more fun than 'save the ewoks'
I'm glancing at a wwII reenactor page now and there's quite an 'axis reenactment' community. not one of them looks much like a soldier--they look just about right for mmo's though. I'm sure they're on there, but I bet frenchmen are trickier to find. unless they use voice chat--the fake accents are reason enough to join the resistance. that'd be my team.

Key reason they likely cut the Nazi stuff was for two reasons. One we all know the beliefs held by those in the Nazi party are scientifically and morally wrong, and second being that if they had any of that they couldn't get it into Germany. Germany may still block the game from being allowed in the country, the whole Nazi thing still leave a very bitter taste in their mouth and they have fears of something like it happening again.

I dont see the big deal about playing as the Germans
The German Soldiers were people too
and despite what some may tell you, were not all Nazis

I'd much rather fly a Rebel ship than an Imperial one. Ties get blown up in one hit. I jump in a Y-wing and turn into a juggernaut. I do like Imperial (and the Republic's before them) ground vehicles, AT-ATs and AT-TEs are unstoppable on Battlefront.Reaperman@home wrote:I don't think anybody had more fun playing xwing than they did playing tie fighter.
On Day of Defeat, I'd rather be Allies most of the time, because I can actually pronounce their ranks.
