The dashboard change REQUIRES a mod of some sort (hard or soft). Not sure if you knew that, but your post makes it sound like you're changing the dashboard as opposed to softmodding.
You can add a second hard drive to replace the DVD-ROM if you want. You can probably find a tutorial for it on xbox-scene.com.

I see, if you want to add a second HDD and keep your DVD drive, llamma.com has the "case xtender" I think they are like $50. It's basically a new top for the Xbox with room under it for 2 more HDD's. As for adding a second....why, just replace the stock one, any mod chip can boot 2 or more dashboards if thats your reasoning.
IF I SOFTMOD IS THERE A BIG CHANCE OF THE XBOX DIEING ON ME.
can you still play xbox game if i soft mod the xbox?
i heard that you can use a usb drive instead of an action replay is this true and if so how do you do it?
where can i download the files needed?
for the dashboard change what sort of soft mod would i need?
I might add a second hdd.
im still not sure about that one.
sorry about all the questions but i know all most noting about soft moding.

Go to a hardware store, and get torx 10, 15 and 20 bits. The three are needed to open the XBox and remove everything inside.

i open it up had a good look inside and than put back toghter i have buy some parts for it.
i have decided to softmod it as long as i can still play xbox games on it.
so can some one tell me where to find a good easy to understand step by ster guide for a pal cristal xbox and where to donwload the files needed. i plan to use splinter cell because i think a freind of mine has the game. i dont think i can get an action replay so i will try the usb flash drive i think i know how to do it. what size drive do i need to hold the files?

Dude, softmods=worthless. Any mod will still let you play games. A softmod only lets you use the stock 8/10Gb HDD which is only big enough to "backup" 1 game! Why not just get a DUOX2 modchip for like $10 bux and wire the 3 or whatever wires you want, add a bigger HDD and get all the storage you need to "backup" all your games? Think about it man.

Um, a softmodded Xbox can take bigger HDD"s just fine. They just need to be locked to that system's EEPROM.BlackWaterOp wrote:Dude, softmods=worthless. Any mod will still let you play games. i would rather not haveing to order something off the internet. because i cant.
i may make this xbox in to a laptop some time so i was thinking of the softmod because it could be a decent laptop and a good gameing laptot as well.
so i would rather a soft mod because its free.
so does any one know where i can get a turtoral for soft moding other than xbox scene?
