My SuperSlimBox WIP (I know it's not a portable...)

Post by BlackWaterOp »

Just wanted to share this with everyone here since you all have a good deal of respect for good bondo work and mods. Anyway I'm starting a SuperSlimBox, which is basically an Xbox-DVD with a Laptop HDD. I'm sure most of you have seen the Slimbox, which is only cut down height-wise. A SuperSlimBox has the Power Supply relocated and turned upside-down on top of the MOBO so that the case is about 20% skinnier as well as shorter.

It will easily take me a month to complete, since I work at a slow pace, and I am still learning to Dremel. I have not really ever worked with Bondo, but consider myself a Perfectionist, so I am confident it will turn out looking good.

I will try to post pics on a regular basis, so please check back often. I am also very open to comment/suggestions/criticism so hit me with your best shot. Thanks for looking. More to follow.....

Nice, I made a slimbox awhile back too (my DVD drive stopped working):

Pardon the dust.

Simple and easy, I'd like to see this super slim box idea though. I know you can use a Pico-PSU with the Xbox, that would cut down a lot of space. Also a notebook hard drive, laying down the caps, and replacing heatsinks and fans would free up some space.

Well I don't plan on getting too into it (laying down caps/power supply swap) I am going to use the original PSU, but install a 40Gb IBM Lappy HDD and DUOX2 chip. I know 40Gb isn't much, but this is like my 7th (not exagerating) Xbox, all LE, SE, or modded, so I'm not worried about space.

A couple of years ago my Digital camera got stolen and the replacement is worse than a camera phone, so I can't post pics tonight :? I did however get the bottom of the case cut, and just need to glue together and bondo... I hope to have pics up by Sunday, by then it should be bondoed up.

But it would be tough to find an external PSU that can drive the PicoPSU since you will need at least 120 watt.

My XBOX consumes around 100 watt in games but it is good to have a PSU with about 30% more capacity.
