7805's Fried on FC Twin

Post by Billybb347 »

Which one of the 7805s is the one to the SNES part of the board?
I only have one extra 7805 and both of the 7805's have fried (I think) from an accidental placement of the batteries backwards.

One 7805 should be able to power the whole thing, heat displacement might be a problem though.

Yeah, make sure you have an efficient heatsink; it wouldn't hurt to throw in a small fan either, plus it'd look pretty cool. :P

Let me make sure: Left meaning when I'm looking at the Heatsink not the Chips (and the A/V outputs)? :)

If you try to run it all off one 7805, I wouldn't recommend a fan, just a decent heatsink. Those parts can run very very hot without a problem, and a fan introduces EMI that might cause instability.

For my portable, I am using a PSOne screen. One of the regulators broke, so both are connected to each other in parallel. I also am running a SNES and seperate audio amp off of it, and The PSOne screen's thin sheet of copper and a piece of cardboard with 22 gauge wire threaded through it is plenty to keep to heat at bay.

But, 7805's are reverse protected, thermal protected, and bash protected! I havn't been able to kill one yet.

You are quite right. He probably DIDN'T fry them at all. He either blew a fuse, or worse!

/sarcasm :?:

Your right I don't know if its the 7805's that fried but since I didn't hear anything snap crackle or pop, I thought replacing them would be a good place to start.

Well if the SNES is not working... quote me if I'm wrong but that little black guy close to power labelled 1.5A is a 1.5A fuse?

Just remember the heatsink used in SNES revision 1 for the regulator was seriously a casing covering half the board...
You say it can't be done. I'll damn well show you it can...

Just may not be cheap. Or practical.
