My main question though, as I've never actually looked into the xbox, is how big is the processors heat sink? I'm willing to say that they might be more of a problem than the hdd or dvd drive.
First damn! I was a a class earlier and was going to suggest that but while typing the internet went down.
Now as for the Processor and GPU they have (while mine anyways) about 2 x 2 x 1.75 inches. I know you can replace them, if you can find a wat to remove the heat sink without just ripping it off as they have one of those tricky latches to be sure its on the CPU.

BOYCOTT MICROSOFT SO THEY MAKE A MINI!!!
No they didnt make the Xbox as big and heavy as it is because they dont know how to make things small. They used the parts because they're cheap. Look at Microsoft's history, if they can find a cheap or shortcut to a solution they take it why else would they use Dos for so long.
As for making it smaller, Microsoft has mentioned they're going to replace the hard drive that is in the Xbox with a solid state memory for the Xbox2, so to limit hacking and reduce cost.

actually, Microsoft has anounced that there will be a HDD version , kinda like a " value pack " that you can buy, and on the HDD comes HALO 2.5 directors cut , better gfx , more multiplayer options ( online CO-OP was hinted at ) and it will be in the Xbox2's HDTV Resolution
I believe they said that will be the only place to get the directors cut , the HDD bundled Xbox2
