NES programming...

Post by TheOnlyOneHeFears »

I'm looking for a relatively simple guide to NES programming. I've looked on the NESDev page, and they have loads of info and tools, but it's all a bit confusing, as I don't know where to start. There was a site made by a teacher who taught a course in NES game programming, which is exactly what I wanted, but the site doesn't work :( So, does anyone have more background info or links? If it helps, I want to programme a basic 2D shooter :)

First, you need to learn 6502 Assembly. The NES's CPU is based off of the 6502 microprocessor, only really big difference is there's no decimal-coded binary mode.

After that, you'll have to read up on documentation on the NES's chipset.

I'm not into the NES (yet), as I'm doing some stuff on the 2600, but trust me, the NES is a great system to work w/.

Oh, & hacking games is also a good place to start.
