I'd have to agree with the strat sounding tinny, but then thats not a bad thing it all depends on what kind of sound you want, i mean if you were playing death metal you wouldnt want a telecaster
Im not that much of a fan of fender guitars really, although i do quite like the jaguar. Their Basses, on the other hand, are excellent

Fender's guitars are inexpensive, and are good for most people who play who aren't completely into buying $600 guitars. However, at the expensive of less price, you get less goodness.
It's all a matter of preference. My little brother bought a Les Paul clone a while back for $600. And me (and Tim) HATE the sound. It sounds disgusting. But he loves the sound. It's also very heavy. I guess you're paying for a home gym membership when you buy it, since it wasn't good for much else.
Any guitar sounds good through an effects pedal though!

for $600 he could have just gotten an Epiphone les paul which are very well made
Epiphone to Gibson is what squier is to fender although Epiphone used to be a manufactuer in its own right before it was bought and the epiphone stuff is a bit better than squier stuff, but then thats just my opinion

You definitely need to have your own opinion. I played a Les Paul today and absolutley would not give Gibson the grand their asking for it. The neck angle seemed strange and I absolutely hated the Tune-o-matic bridge. Just my opinion though. I respect that you like Les Pauls over Strats. I'd take a Strat over a Les Paul anyday.khaag wrote:Every one has their own opinion I guess...
I just don't really like the Strat. I have a Strat, and I would play a LP over it anyday.
My Strat doesn't sound tinny. Granted, I have a humbucker pickup in the bridge but I can still get fat distorted sounds and warm clean sounds with the tone control at around 8. I wouldn't really call it death metal, but John 5 plays some crazy stuff on a Tele, btw.Extreme_Jesus wrote:I'd have to agree with the strat sounding tinny, but then thats not a bad thing it all depends on what kind of sound you want, i mean if you were playing death metal you wouldnt want a telecaster![]()

Yeah, but with the cheaper Squier brand you also get cheaper materials, cheaper construction, overall a less good guitar. However, that's not to say that their bad. I have a Squier Bullet which plays awesome and sounds awesome, and it only cost $99. No fret buzz or anything, and the pickup sounds really good. Of course, you can see obvious flaws in the construction.Kurt_ wrote:I have a fender squier bass. Epiphone and Gibson are different companies. Squier is a kind of make, isn't it?
Just my 2 cents.
I'd imagine right now you wish you were a cuttlefish...
@iam7805: Is it just me, or does John 5 look scary-similar to Will Farrell? But yeah, he does do some crazy stuff on his tele.
It's nice to see that so many of us have a common interest in guitar!
It is a nice cherry topping on our already obvious common interests in electonics/computers/hacking. It's inspiring.

I play the trombone and I can hold my own with an ocarina, but I want to learn how to play the guitar for songs like stariway to heaven. I love music!

Epiphone is owned by Gibson, but it was its own company before it was bought outKurt_ wrote:I have a fender squier bass. Epiphone and Gibson are different companies. Squier is a kind of make, isn't it?

I don't really see similarities, but eh. I'll let you call that one.khaag wrote:@iam7805: Is it just me, or does John 5 look scary-similar to Will Farrell? But yeah, he does do some crazy stuff on his tele.

It's surprising how many guitarists there are on a video game hacking forum.
Anyways, getting back on topic... Is the neck on this guitar going to be a glue-on or bolt-on? (both are "seperate from the body") Personally I prefer a bolt-on (glue-on necks are one of the main reasons I don't like Les Pauls), but a glue-on would definitely give you better sustain.
By the way, there's one thing that you NEED on this guitar, and don't argue with me about it: Straplocks! I prefer the Schaller kind, but Dunlop makes good ones for about the same price. Besides, you'll only be out about $15.
I'd imagine right now you wish you were a cuttlefish...
