Thats a nice idea, but I am already vacuum-forming a case for my MDp, plus I probably can't afford those (but my mum promised me the book!) P.S: Will your book be on sale at waterstones? Its the only good bookshop where I live in the U.K.

Well, my N64 portable is all designed and ready to be routed. I'm sad it's gonna be next Friday before I get to do it!, but other things come first!

I'm already thinking it'd be a great CNC project for a book (Yes, I know, counting chickens before they hatch and all) It's a pretty slick design if I don't say so myself.

And it has NO D-pad or "R" shoulder button. Granted, a book version would need those, but it wouldn't be hard to add them on.

I think I may actually rout TWO sets of parts for it... because I am thinking about giving them LINK abilities! (cue Bond music) Only thing is this is pretty useless until 1 person (or friends) buy both of them.

Also I am going to re-wire up the expansion pack, cuz an N64 portable that can't play Perfect Dark is like a fridge that won't hold MGD - WORTHLESS!

I hope you mean "L" button and not the "R" button :P
Also, as far as a system link go I'd recommend a dsub-9 connector with these things on it.
Audio left
Audio right
Composite Video
Player 2 Data
Player 3 Data
Player 4 Data
Ground
5 Volts
Controller power (3.3V I think)

I'd say that a larger dsub link could hold more things, like battery linking and rgb, but those aren't needed (although battery linking for longer life is pretty neat)

I think link standards would be a pretty cool thing to put up on Doomportables or something, then if we ever meet we could just hook up the portables :)

Bummer, no mortal kombat  It will still be sweet though!

I think gannons got the right idea for the link connector (beat me to it) :)

As for cases I might buy a couple but I dont have much money so they would have to be fairly cheap, like under $50 for me to justify buying one.

Well, I think it is a great idea. And the price is right also.
I have already purchased some of Ben's Cases.
He sold me a SNES case and a PSone case.

I must say that it is well worth the money. The decals especialy finish the projects off and make them look very profesional.

thanks again Ben.
