My Dreamcast lately has been refusing to play any game discs that I have burned (usually it plays flawlessly) I cleaned the laser and it gets passed the Created by/Licensed By Sega screen, and then it refuses to load after that. I've tried music CDs as well and they work fine, but I cant try any non pirated games because I do not own any.
I was wondering if it has to come to it if I could replace the laser, and if any generic CD laser would work (ex: A Walkman's Laser)
Thanks,

The laser in amny console, or cd romdrive is not simple at all. Even if you were ale to reach the laser, it would be completly destroyed. The laser (in most cases) goes though a one way mirror, is reflected onto the cdrom, back at the mirror, and then off to a sensor. If by some fluke you were able to get this far, the laser out of a pointer and such is the the wrong type and way, way to big for this. It is called presesion technology.
If you suddenly got a new laser in there you would have connection problems, and ajustment porblem.
In short. Get a new one. Much easier.

hes thinking of taking the full disc drive out and replacing it with a cd drive instead of a gdrom which wouldnt be too hard i think not just the laserDitto wrote:The laser in amny console, or cd romdrive is not simple at all.
