SMS on Genesis

Post by Krepticor »

OK I know that the 16-bit megadrive was based on the Master system format, and well I know the base power converter is mainly a pass through unit, Is there a site with the pinout to run this? and where could I find a cart port?

Sorry it was a long day and I was about to edit my post when I noticed my mistake.
You are right RobIvy. The Z80 it the MS Cpu. The power base still is more complex than a passthrough. It contains 3 ICs if I remember correctly Icould get the # off them if anyone is interested.

The Z80 in the Genesis is not used for SMS sound (when the powerbase is installed), it is used as the main CPU.

The Z80 talks to the YM2612 and is addressable by the 68000 during Genesis/MD gameplay.

anyway yea the IC #'s would be nice, and if I could make one cheaper than getting one off eBay, if not, then to eBay I shall trot!

I don't know if the SMS video hardware is located in the PBC or not, but I can guarantee you that the Z80 in the Genesis is used as the SMS CPU, and the Texas Instruments PSG is located in the GLU.
