Halo on a DDR Pad

Post by A_Username »

Possible? I don't own a DDR Pad, but I think it has all the same buttons. What do you think, cool, uncool, or just weird.

As far as I know, DDR has 9 buttons, and uh Halo has a lot more...plus movement is done via the analog sticks with (I believe) potentiameters...I'm not sure you can get a proper command from that...well...good luck :wink:

My friend would be willing to sacrifice his old DDR Pad to adapt analog sticks onto it. The DDR pad actually has L1, L2, R1, R2 buttons on it. Somebody I know tried this, they could shoot and stuff (I think) but the biggest issue is movement.

From what I recall, a DDR pad has only the d-pad, start and select buttons. I've never seen one with shoulder buttons, but maybe they exist, or I just never noticed. I personally hate the game but I have friends who play. Anyway, I personally think that even if you did add extra buttons to one, you'd have to have them on a controller to be used with your hands and therefore somehow attached to the pad. It would be impossible to move and shoot with the feet alone. Also the extra coordination required to use the hands and feet at once seems an awful lot of hassle.

If you're stuck on this idea, I think your best bet would be to somehow use the pad for the ABXY buttons (or X O [ ] /\ on a ps2) and use the controller for analog movement. However, I have no clue how much of that is possible, as I've almost no knowledge of electronics whatsoever short of "Don't put paper clips in an outlet."

It's a third party ripoff DDR Pad, there are sholder buttons toward the top little small green ones that you can press with a big toe.

Sorry to revive this, but it seriously bugged me....well, it is possible, I mean like one pad being main movement, and another one where directions are the pad and buttons are action. Halo playing with your feet (Look ma, no hands!)...but I'm really...really....REALLY doubting you can get a true analog 'UP' signal from the analogs?

The main point I was trying to make was I don't think it's possible to use the feet for that many commands at once. You'd at the very least be at a disadvantage you could overcome. Your feet can control what, maybe 2 buttons each at once. That's 4 buttons at a time. In Halo you must be able to simultaneously run, aim, fire, and jump at least. That's your max of 4. Add a grenade to the list and you need to become a cyborg to play.

Also, The distance between the up and down arrows (and of course the left and right arrows) makes it so that you they each take up two functions anyway. Let's say you use two pads as demonofaj suggested. you have:

[-^-] [-^-]
[<->] [<->]
[-v-] [-v-]

and some shoulder buttons. There's no way you can move a foot from up to down in enough time to avoid snipers while still keeping the other half of that same foot on the button it needs to be on to complete one of the aforementioned four actions.
