PS2 & XBOX

Post by bwdski »

Just a thought I had the other day whilst opening my xbox.
Could you adapt a PS2 to fit into an xbox case and share some resources.
The DVD Drive for example.

Would it be possible?

Possible, yes. Practical, no. The things are different so you would have to do some crazy soldering and splicing of lines in order to have it work. Why not just use the PS2's DVD drive?
It's not about quantity, but rather quality

I was thinking that there's more room in an XBOX box to fit the PS2 Motherboard.

I had a slim PS2 in mind

The PSTwo drive is proprietary, whereas the Xbox DVD drive is IDE based. That means it would take active components (most likely a microcontroller or FPGA) to translate the drive signals from one console to the other, and original PS2 games may not be playable.

In the end, too much work to do something that actually reduces flexibility. You can't take one console then leave the other, as they're always together. With the small size of the PSTwo, the gain in space is minimal.

Thanks for your reply.

why not do a case mod with the two consoles, put em in one case, all you need to do is just keep everything seperate except the AC lines and the AV stuff, (the AV may pose a little problem that can be easily fixed, a switch, anyway) the AC line is fine so long as you take the normal precaution and don't load it down
