Best Album released this year? (and last year)

Post by Unidentified Assilant »

Just wondered what your thoughts were on music released this, and last year, since they're wasn't a lot released this year really that was any good... say what your favourite albums were and tracks you'd recommend by them.

Lamb Of God - Sacrament
Considering there is not really many decent metal bands around in America today, this is easily one of the best, and overshadows other of today's metal bands such as Chimaira, Terror etc. from the same era, and if people call them the new Pantera, you know they're good :)
Recommended Songs
1 - Redneck (Sacrament)
2 - Laid To Rest (Ashes Of The Wake)
3 - Black Label (New American Gospel)

Gojira - From Mars To Sirius
Most people on these forums have probably not heard of these, extreme Metal from France. There also very heavy, if you like metal, give them a listen.
Recommended Songs
1 - Backbone (From Mars To Sirius)
2 - Ocean Planet (From Mars To Sirius)
3 - Flying Whales (From Mars To Sirius)

Hatebreed - Supremacy
For over a decade, Hatebreed have defined metal with their lyrics and heavy style of music, and their latest album is above their older stuff as well.
Recommended Songs
1 - I Will Be Heard (Perservance)
2 - To The Threshold (Supremacy)
3 - Defeatist (Supremacy)

The Decemberists - The Crane Wife
definitely one of the best albums released this year, as like you said, releases this year were very weak. The only song that makes this album imperfect to me is The Perfect Crime #2, which just seems out of place.
Recommended Songs
1 - The Crane Wife 3
2 - O Valencia!
3 - The Crane Wife 1 & 2
4 - The Island
5 - Yankee Bayonet (I will be home then)

The Red Hot Chili Peppers - Stadium Arcadium
28 amazing tracks that were definitely worth the long wait since their last album. I would recommend the entire album, but i will list my personal favorites below.
Recommended Songs
1 - Snow (Hey Oh)
2 - Wet Sand
3 - Make You Feel Better
4 - Hard to Concentrate
5 - Animal Bar

Alexisonfire - Crisis
Awesome album, even if its less heavy than the other two.
Tracks : This Could Be Anywhere in the World, We Are the Sound

TBS - Louder Now
Best album by them, no doubt.
Tracks: Error: Operator (The Fantastic 4 version is better though), Spin, Miami, Twenty-Twenty Surgery

Not released this year, but THIS IS THE BEST ALBUM EVER!
Rage Against the Machine - Self Titled
Tracks: EVERYTHING (Except Settle for Nothing)

Chilren of Bodom - Are You Dead Yet
definitely my favorite melodic death metalish band. Some CoB fand don't like this album but I like it.
recomended songs:
-Are You Dead Yet?
-Bastards of Bodom
-most of them

Slayer - Christ Illusion
I'm not a satanist or anything, but this is a very good album. A good thing about Slayer is that they havn't lost their touch with thrash metal *coughmetallicacough*
This album's songs are all pretty consistent and equally good so I can't think of a few to recomend.

Another pretty recent album that didn't quite come out this year or last year (it was released in 2004) is Megadeth's "The System Has Failed." It has some really good songs like Back in the Day and The Scorpion. Ozzy Osbourne and Manowar are releasing new albums in 2007, they're probably gonna be pretty awsome. Unfortunately, That will be Ozzy's 2nd to last album :( .

Check, please! Contest over.

Rosetta Stoned is just too sick of a song for this album NOT to be #1.

Last year's best album would probably have to have been Octavarium by Dream Theater.

Morrissey - Ringleader of the Tormentors
Nothing tops You Are the Quarry for Morrissey albums, but this is just as good as his other hit albums.
You Have Killed Me
The Father Who Must Be Killed
