Neo Fami?

that is a strange coincidence I was just saying this in anouther thread
Im done here
The NOAC units that they are attacking are the ones that come with copyrighted games, just as the Super Joy Power Player Thingy 3 does. The NeoFami comes with no games.gannon wrote:If that's true, how was Nintendo legally stop the sale of NOAC units?HK-47 wrote:Thats true as the atari flashback used a noac.JackFrost22 wrote:Actually the nintendo hardware has no patents left. They are 100% legal the power joys were getting in troble becuse the games are still copyrighted. a noac is completely legal
Funny this topic is up... today I was at my local video game resale shop and they are selling NeoFamis with a 72-pin converter and a free cart for $50. The converter is a nice one too. It's enclosed in a plastic case unlike some of the cheaper ones you can get on the internet which have the circuit board and all the soldering exposed. I think I'm going to pick one of these up someday soon.

gannon: It wasn't just the pirated games, either. Controller designs are also copyrighted. So the N64 controller design was also something Nintendo cited in their case.
In short, NOACs are perfectly legal, though GOACs might not be (depends on how broad the patent Sega got on theirs was). Silly Nintendo for not making their own.

This was discussed in another thread here: http://benheck.com/ipw-web/bulletin/bb/ ... php?t=1442
This does appear to be the highest quality built machine utlizing a NOAC on the market.
A little more info on this system. It is manufactured and marketed in Japan by Gametech as the aforementioned Neo Fami. It is marketed in the US by Yobo as the FC Game Console. The packaging is slightly different and a 60-72 pin converter IS included in the Yobo build.
I would not pay more than $30 plus shipping (Toys n Joys). I found one localy for $35 and will probably pick it up as soon as I have the cash.

Only if you buy in bulk. I think thats how Gannon got a price break on the NOACs he bought. Just be sure that to get that kind of discount you may have to buy 50 or even 100 units.goodie wrote:Hmm, 30 bucks for a legit Noac, interesting. Any chance of finding one under $20?

Hmm, didn't those atari tv games thingies use a noac? If they did maybe I could use one of them.

Well those too go for about $30, that and I dont think/know if anyone has found out what the pinout of the chip is. If they have and $30 if what you want to spend by owe means.

The NeoFami costs about $30 in Japan, so you're probably not going to find it for cheaper. There is a model marketed by a slightly shadier company called the Famikonyarou which is also generally quite well-built (although there is one design flaw where they have been known to overheat, but that would not affect building a portable, because it's the 7805 that overheats and one could easily change its position on the board when fiddling with other stuff). I have two of them and they seem to be roughly as good as the NeoFami, as well as having 7 pirate games- yet they changed the graphics and titles so as to not incur Nintendo's wrath. Sometimes even the music is changed (to some horrible tune someone made while on crack).
Hopefully I can figure out a way to get around some issues within my household to order the guts of these things (without the games
) for about $11, and then I could ship them out in June very cheaply (from the USA)
