First how big is your screen? (I think a smaller screen would affect it) Second were the candles on top of the screen? I really think that would help, some one should try these out cause I don't have any small screens...
Let me just say this. SCREEN SIZE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE FREAKING WII MOTE. a lot of people don't get this. The sensor bar is a constant width. The wii doesn't care what the hell your screen size is, it just registers the IR led's.
THe candles being closer together might be affected by increased light spill causing some weird fluctuations, but theoretically, the closer the LED's, the closer the wiimote.

Um, why? Such a waste.

After running tests, I wonder if it would be possible to put some IR LEDs deeper into the laptop instead of parallel with the screen. Otherwise, you'll need some distance.

I know that screen size has nothing to do with the wiimote  I just meant that it would block the ir's if it was a 57 inch widescreen hd because the light might not reach the wiimote because the light is phisically blocked from being sensed. :P sorry for the misunderstanding.

Another idea is to use wider angle, less intense LED's. I don't know how much of a difference this would make, but some experimentation would be good. Remote controls generally use smaller angle, but higher intensity LED's.

I used two diffused flashlights and it was fairly better. So yes, joevennix is right.

all that is happening is a triangulated signal

If the LEDs are too wide then the wii-mote will be out of adjustment

The candles probably aren't the best test case. Hmmm.... How about some supremely ghetto h4xoring? Find two mirrors...

(The black is the sensor bar, the blue is the mirrors, the red is the IR LEDs, and the yellow represents light. Even though light doesn't really work that way.... yeah... Either way, the mirrors will reflect the IR light.

I tried it with IR LEDs also, same results. When you get close to the screen, I think the sensor bar is out of view.

Huh, weird. I'll have to try it out on my own when I get it (Nintendo World Store is the only place within 20 miles the has any in stock! >_<)

Maybe if we angle the leds together, they would register?
Also, sorry about the confusion, but I have heard people saying like "If YOu HAd a MoVEI SCReen YoU WOUlD HAve tO RUn LOLZ!!!" which you wouldn't. It would be normal movements.

 that's hilarious. But yeah someone should try wide angle's.

Where'd you get the LEDs from, Skyone?
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

I ordered some off digikey (wide and thin angled) as soon as the interest in the sensor bar appeared.

I'm still running tests, but as it turns out, I get the most accuracy of pointing with the LEDs in the middle of the screen, that's right, over the screen. Which is obvious to an extent, and I can get EXTREMELY close to the screen. This leads me to the theory of actually laying some LEDs in the backlight of a Wii laptop's screen.

as soon as I find some batteries to use them with, I'll do some testing as well. In the mean time, try angling the LEDs down and toward the center of the screen, Skyone. It may produce a similar effect as having them in the center :).

This sensor bar thing, distance-wise, doesn't really matter all that much when you think about it. I mean, if you are using a 15" screen, a normal laptop screen size, how close can you get without it being impossible to point anywhere? How far can you get while being able to see it?
Shhh! I'm not officially back yet.
