Ben's Wii Laptop

Post by DK »

Anybody who has read the main page, Ben wants to build a Wii laptop. Great idea, when the Wii gets it's internet browser. it would make kickass net browser.

One last thought, would you need to make a senor bar that would stick out the side of the laptop as I think the distance between the two IR LED's matter. They could fold out the side of the screen like oldschool car indicators.

Now if only I had a Wii

why not just build them into the corners of the material surrounding the screen for the sensor bar?

wii is a very cool system. ive always been a big fan of nintendo =)

The only problem that I see with the idea of a Wii laptop is that if one were to use the pointer ability of the remote, you need to be at least four feet away from the sensor bar. Might be able to change by adjusting the sensitivity or something, but I'm not sure.

Building a wii laptop shouldn't be too hard, even with battery. It'd be simpler than the 360 one at least. It'd have to be along the lines of the 360 one though, just to bring around, set down, then play. I'd recommend a 15" 480p lcd just for fun :P

the wii laptop is an interesting concept but I view it very impratical (I have a wii so I can talk)

The wii-mote doesn't really function well at close distances...so to me the wii will only be usefull if it could have a large enough screen and the person is back far enough

So gannon's 480p 15" screen would be all I want and this would probably be for something like camping or something else (mabye a back-pack?)

yeah, the Gamecube only consumed a bit less than that.....1.2A or so....anyway, I'm definitely gonna do something like this, but first I need an extra Wii :P. There's no way I'm hacking up my precious Wii right now ;).
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

You could do like EnterTheHatrix was saying he wanted to do, having a dock sorta think for it so you don't have to mutilate your Wii.

if I'm gonna make one, though, I want to make it right ;). Hell, I might even make it a "classic" portable, using the classic controller (if they ever get the classic controller working with the GC games :|) on the sides and having a stand or something for Wii games....I'm gonna do some testing with candles (as I have no IR leds I can use :P) to see if I can't have the Wii-mote be used closer to the tv/screen....

Concerning the Wii not functioning well at close distances: I have a theory. If somebody were to remove a few inches from the Sensor Bar (or make a shorter, home-made bar), it should work at a closer distance. Why? It'll trick the system into thinking the Wiimote is farther away from the console than it really is.

I've been trying frantically to pick up a Wii, but to no avail. Damn ye, New Jersey....

Nice plan! I'll try that out stu.

EDIT: I tried it with the candles. Even with the flames 2.5 inches apart, I could only get around 15 inches close to the screen.

@ skyone

First how big is your screen? (I think a smaller screen would affect it) Second were the candles on top of the screen? I really think that would help, some one should try these out cause I don't have any small screens...
