A guy in columbus game trade in store tried to sell me one for 50 dollars when I asked him if he had boxed nes's.

He tried to sell me one of these, when I started looking for nes games.

Him: Its an official nintendo.
Me: No, it isnt
Him: Yeah it is, the FC means famcom. Thats the japanese nintendo.
Me: actually, it means famicom, and its not official.
Him: Yeah it is.
Me: Wheres the seal of quality.
Him: It isnt quality, so it didnt get it.
Me: ...
Him: I dont sell pirate stuffs.
Me: Dude, thats a pirate console, the box doesnt even say nintendo on it. Screw this.
I wait for my friends family to get done, and we leave.

Me: (thinking) I should report him. Idiot.

Actually the nintendo hardware has no patents left. They are 100% legal the power joys were getting in troble becuse the games are still copyrighted. a noac is completely legal

Yeah but whos going to buy just an NES or Famicom? They have to have games and popular games at that to grab people's attention and money.

NeoFami is legal, as everyone said. They are fairly high quality, and sell for about $30 here (in Japan, the birthplace of the NeoFami). They are teeny tiny, but compatibility is the same as that of most other NOACs (not perfect, but pretty darn good). Recently, "legitimate" Genesis sytems have also been hitting the Japanese market (they're pirate Genesis systems, but since it's been 17 years since the patent was filed... Sega is powerless). These systems say on them (in Japanese): This is not a licensed product of (Sega or Nintendo, depending on the system). I don't have the NeoFami box to tell you where to point it out to the guy though :/

So, in any case, you're both right. It's technically not pirate--it is legal. But it's not licensed by Nintendo either.

Sorry I wrote a whole bunch of stuff and didn't add a whole lot. But the NeoFami is a quality system. It's not worth $50 though. In fact, I think Toys'n Joys is selling it for $30.

If that's true, how was Nintendo legally stop the sale of NOAC units?

Good point :)
The built in games are crap anyways so they should just make them with a cart port :)

I know the NOAC is legal, else Atari couldn't use it in the Flashback....

We should at LEAST be able to find a way to get the chips....maybe from the place Atari or the pirates got them....
