Please Add Neo Geo to "Console Projects"

Post by 8man »

BenHeck.com,

Please add Neo Geo to "Console Projects".

Definitely a good idea ... 8)

I've seen some great Neo Geo AES, MVS, and consolidized mods,
and even Ben Heck himself has created the portable Neo MVS system.

I've read a few posts of why the Neo Geo section hasn't been added,
but at least give it a try... what do you have to lose?

Atari, Intellivision, Nintendo, Sega, Sony, XBox...
Neo Geo is also a part of our gaming history, and there are a lot of fans!

Sure I can visit www.neo-geo.com and see "everything" about Neo Geo,
but, they don't even have a mod section.

It only seems right to add the mod section here,
because people visit Benheck.com to see cool mods.

I custom designed and built this... (look inside and the systems).

and what about automobile installs? (system)

OK I have pollerized this. I shall let "the people of the forums" choose, since the mods seem to be about 50/50 on it. Personally I like the idea. F42 has til Friday to decide.

The Neo Geo is not a broad enough topic that enough people have thought about making portables for it. If we see enough requests, we will consider it.

Otherwise, I really like the custom cabinet. It's very professional, however, it's not Neo Geo specialized, it's for all consoles. Another reason to have no Neo Geo category here. ;)

hmmm...

Neo Geo AES
Neo Geo Hyper 64
Neo Geo 6-Slot
Atomiswave (plays Neo Geo games)
PS2 (plays Neo Geo games)

graphic on top of cabinet: Samurai's of Neo Geo.

Joysticks wired using DB15 cabling (Neo sized).
(I made a custom DB15 cable for the PS2)

I don't know how much more Neo Geo I can add into my cabinet :?
(hey, I forgot about my Neo Geo CDZ... good suggestion!)

Does it take up too much space to add a "Neo Geo" section?
I say try it, if the "Neo Geo" doesn't get any posts after a couple of months,
then just delete it.

Ben Heckendorn created this Neo portable:

This is where you start your Neo Geo Section :)

I'm pretty clueless to the Neo Geo, so I didn't know half of the things in there were related to the Neo Geo. :P

I'll discuss it with the staff.

I had thought about doing a similar "arcade bench" design and stashing an extra projector inside with some kind of vent system. but then I realized I didn't have nearly the space to make it usable--I'd need a room with at least 14ft from wall to wall, and no window on the opposite wall.
great job on it

Holy.... cow... That is a seriously drool-worthy setup there, man. I agree, arcade hardware is consistently ignored. The only place I have seen that concentrates on doing arcade stuff is the BYOAC website, but they usually only deal with MAME machines, and I want to do actual arcade hardware mods.

I am getting into the scene- I got a neo geo MV-1b with some cool accessories and some games on ebay for about $50. I also have some other arcade boards sitting around here somewhere... lets see...

I still think that the Neo Geo and other arcade based systems could use a little more respect around here. Sure, not many people own them, and they don't make games for them anymore, but you could say the same thing for other discontinued systems. Also, the arcade section could include other things arcade related. Just to prove that I am into it, I will upload some pics of a new work in progress by me.

careful with the mv-1b. some of them shipped with the 'irritating maze' firmware (trackball controller). really very few shipped with this useless firmware, but that's why they sell so cheaply on ebay.

as far as numbers of us with neo geos, I'd say a solid dozen on the forum have mvs or aes and a great deal more have the lesser systems.

I've got an NGP, NGPC, CD, MVS, and before too long here, maybe another one.

My MV-1b was cheap because it needs work- the main op amp is bad (willl fix) and the firmware will be upgraded to unibios. Then I intend to consolize it, maybe make a neo laptop.

OH yeah, does anyone know how to do the stereo mod on the mv-1b? I know it's been done before, but all the neo-geo.com forum people are being stupid and won't even give me a link to find any info. I know how to do the mv-1c stereo mod, but that does not help me at all.

I have asked the mods about this.

I think it's a good idea, we just need to set it up.

I heart Neo Geo! "ON THE GWEEN!!!"

I'm going to ask this question publicly. How many threads are there about the Neo Geo, and how often do they apper? If it's not often why make a new forum? It'd be worst then the Dreamcast forum, that forum is really quite but it was made as there was known that a good amount of interest in the Dreamcast was there when made, it's not the same for the Neo Geo.

Here's one for you " Why not?" Does it really matter if its going to be slower then the dreamcast fourm? There are a lot of people that like the neo, like me, Bens even done a couple different projects with it. This is one of the things I dont like about this board, the mod's are always the first to shot things down. Its almost if they dont like it ,they dont want it.

So with that said, I think when should have a neo-geo fourm. Just remember this board is here for everyone and everyone should have a say of whats in
it.
