The OFFICIAL Console Camp thread! Updates, news, tips, etc.

Post by CronoTriggerfan »

Hey guys! I stopped in my local BestBuy today to get my name in with the manager and ask a few questions about the launch and their camping policies, and saw it: "The line" for the PS3 was already about 10 strong, and it's only Monday! So I figured it would be appropriate to start a thread showing useful links to console camping tips, your plans on camping, and if you're lucky enough to have a laptop and a wireless connection while you camp, give updates on your status while the long haul for your Wii/PS3 is commencing. Let me start out...

I use Playfeed for my latest news on the upcoming launch, as it's readily updated.

This great little guide on Wiiloaded gives good information on where you should try to get your Wii, and also rates stores depending on their advantages/disadvantages.

Thank Spongebuell for this next one! www.consolecamp.com has TONS of good info, store locators with Wii/PS3 amounts, and this great and in-depth console camping guide. It's got plenty of great general info, as well as specific tips regarding certain stores and the console of your desire.

As for my personal plans, I intend to try my luck at BestBuy, getting there at about 9 or 10am Saturday. I'll be bringing a handful of friends and a few small tents, as well as a self-inflating matress, a load of junk food, a 24-pack of Monster energy, and of course, games galore. How about you guys?

Have fun with this one, and don't forget to give us updates on the night of!

Thanks,
CTFan

Anyone know numbers on the Cosco Wii launch? I wanna know whether I should camp out there or at target (I'm thinking target, it's near SIX other places selling Wii's, so I should be able to get it.) I might also just go to Walmart next door instead. Or Circuit City. Or TRU. <_< >_>

Well my Costco is getting 24 Wii "packages", as well as games/controllers. However, the majority of them in my area are getting 9-14, so I suppose you can ball-park from there.

Just call your Costco, usually they'll tell you how many they'll have.

I'm going to Target very early in the morning. Is this the worst plan ever? Or should I go early in the morning the day before?

Saturday, definitely. Maybe not 9am (well, unless your Target is getting an inordinately low amount of Wiis) but definitely sometime during the day Saturday, just to be safe. You *MIGHT* be able to go in the morning and pick one up, but why risk it? Especially since it is my personal belief that the Wii will sell out on launch day, seeing as American is only getting just shy of 1,500,000 of them!

Agreed. Not only is lining up a day in advance hardcore and reassuring, but it's so damn fun! Plus it's such a good feeling when you see the line stretch endlessly behind you, and you laugh at all the grandmas coming a mere 30 minutes in advance trying to score a Wii for little Jimmy, and going to the back of a 60+ person line.

Also, if anyone has camped for consoles before, sharing your experiences here would be cool, as this is my first time, and I'm sure many are in the same boat. Thanks!

So I should go around dinner time on Saturday? I don't like the idea of sleeping outside... :( But I guess that's why they call it "camping out."

well what sucks where I live is that it gets to about -30 celsius up here at night, and well its around -15 celsius during the day, thank god it came out this early on in the winter or it would be even worse, so ya im hopeing on the fact that people freeze to death in the cold and I can just waltz right in and get my wii. No waiting night and day for me.
ahh. but opinions can change and facts can be faulty.

Does anyone know how long a car battery would power a 19"-ish TV and a Gamecube or Xbox?

eBay for me folks. Ships Nov. 20! I'll have it there by Tuesday at a good bet.

I preordered my Wii. :) I am probably going to stop by the EBGames on midnight Saturday night to get it too. Just so you guys know, I live in a fairly small town. My local EBGames got 10 Wii's to preorder, and there was over 20 people in line. So, even if a store gets 53 units in, they could be sold out by noon, easily.
