PSOne lcd question

Hey guys, new member here. My attempt at a portable psone starting soon. Just have a few questions if anyone can help.

I just recieved my psone lcd I bought off ebay. Was testing it out to make sure the screen works but I can't get any video to show. Tried it out with 2 dvd players and nothing. The screen lights up and I can see the brightness and volume adjustment display but no picture or sound. I don't have a psone system to test it out on. Do you guys think it's dead or at least the av in port is dead? Does the screen require a psone system to be hooked up in order to use the av in port? I can return it as the ebay seller has a return policy.

Yeah, it needs to be plugged into a psone to use the a/v port. You can open it up and mod it so plugging it into a psone isn't needed though.

I used it without a PSOne just fine...

But it needs the 5V on the psone a/v input jack to function without modding....

well, I didn't do any mods and it worked just fine with an A/V cable.

hmmm.....

Wish I had a psone system to make sure. I have the official sony brand lcd if that makes any difference compared to the third party ones.

I have an official psone screen too. Most official ones I've seen only turn on with the 5V over the psone a/v port, so I guess yours is special spongy

I agree though, try inputing av from a different source.

I used a plug from Radio Shack that let me plug RCA cables into the AV plug and it worked fine stand-alone. There was nothing plugged in but the power and the video cables.

I think you got a screen with a busted AV plug. Its probably the switch part of the plug thats broken. The switch is part of the plug and when something is plugged in it switches from the PS1 AV to the plugs AV.

You could fix this with some soldering and either replacing the plug with some female RCA plugs and a switch, or just put a switch in there for the busted part.

Ok, tried it out with my Dreamcast, PS2, Gamecube and portable media center but no luck. Don't have a VCR. I still have to get a psone but I was holding out until the end of the month but guess I have to get one now. I'll just let the ebay seller know of my situation. Thanks anyways guys.

That's what I thought too. I could fix it or just return and get another one. Thanks.

I just thought of something, maybe the prongs on the plug got bent out or something. Should be easy to fix, just push em in.
I had something similar happen to my pocket TV and I just bent the prongs in and it worked fine.

It could be the cord that takes the video and audio and puts into the 1/8 mini jack.
