PoD Redesign Contest

Post by gannon »

Since a redesign is long overdue I figured this would be a good way to go about it. Voting will be held after the first contest portion is finished.
If you want to see a code template, go to http://sandbox.portablesofdoom.org/pod2.html. If you really want you can make the code, and submit a screen shot for the first portion of the contest.

Part I:
Create an image of your design. This will be made to show your template and graphics.
Time Period: 1 Month

Part II:
Finish your design. This includes creating any graphics and code.
Please note that all coding will be done in CSS only.
Time Period: 2 Weeks

Now then, prizes will be given out to participants depending on their ranking. If you pass portion 1 but can not finish the 2nd portion (you can't code CSS), you will receive a lesser prize.
Currently these items are available:
NESp
Atari Flashback 2.0 with cartridge mod and ~23 games

If you want to donate items for prizes send me a PM.

Sweet. I'll start working on this when i get the chance. I have to get my site back up first

EDIT: Wasnt sure where to post a screenshot, but just a taste of what my entry will look like. Feature include: Full CSS design, Forum integration (PoD forums?), Picture Pool for quick drooling before school  , Chat box to say hi to each other without posting in forums, etc. Anyway, enjoy this:

Nice, Harshboy!

Just one thing, though. You're missing a tab for the LPC page. :P (Might want to make the content column wider, too...)

If only I knew CSS better... Meh I've got enough on my plate as it is.

SWEET design, Harsh! :D May wanna rework the toolbars and the site mapping, like change How-To guides to something more general that covers soldering, systems, screens, batts, etc. But other than that, freakin' sweet! Much more navigateable than the current layout! Sorry NIN_NIN and Gannon!

Nice job Harshboy. It does need to be wider, and it looks slightly pink. :?

hat's also the slogan in the maternity ward. :P

Honestly I don't have much time to dedicate to revamping PoD, since my own site is in such pitiful, slow-loading, table-y shape. I pulled a few designs off Open Source Web Design, so there's a start...

I'll see what I can whip up for a new favorites icon and logo...

Edit: Yeah, that WOULD make a good shirt design! Any chance of a vector (EPS or SVG) version?

Man, that is so sweet! We should seriously put that on t-shirts and sell it! :D I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

And have it say "benheck.com" on the back. That would a be a great way to advertise.

Nice first entry, however, it's a bit bland.

EDIT: Haha, Harsh, look at your .tk site. :P

I think a great design would be something similar to afroman's site! Make it look like a real workbench! maybe have cases you click on, for the system you want. Click on the soldering iron to get to soldering tips, that kind of stuff. Something for those with talent to consider.
