Includes but not limited to: SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Game Gear and I guess the Virtual Boy.

nope, probably not. I didn't see it as anything that was really necessary especially since most of the great games are 2D and I found little use for analog control. Also, it would cost another $10-$20 to add that and if anything went wrong it would be an even further pain. Plus, I already recorded all the necessary info from a regular Saturn pad.

Update: The Saturn had a great run today! Played Samurai Shodown 4, Steam Hearts, Saturn Bomberman, and DonDonPachi with my friends today. Also played a lot on the train. It all ran fantastic without any major problems. I'll be spending the next week or so perfecting everything with import switches, a new paint job and built in rechargeable li-ion batteries! This is one of the greatest portables ever...I've had so much fun with this thing I've forgotten all about my PSTwo Portable :P

Cool! But the case seems to be a bit too large... If you morphed it in a saturn Laptop (without d-pad and butttons), would it be less large?

Wow, I must have said this a million times...I can't make it any smaller. Period. The only smaller version of the original Saturn ever produced was the Hitachi HiSaturn Navi which runs around $1000+ and is only slightly slimmer. That is the only way I would be able to shrink the size of my Saturn Portable. The model 2 is a couple inches smaller in the mobo but it also requires two sets of voltage which is totally not worth working with.

Thus, my Saturn portable will remain large! okay? I did take out the massive heatsink so it's much lighter. But please...no more size talk, I can't do anything to change the size.

That said, I've had a major set back...I have broken (yet another) Saturn motherboard >_< The things fry so easily if the polarities touch just once...I don't know what blows but it's not a fuse and it combines the two charges together whenever the system is powered on. So crap, I gotta buy yet ANOTHER Saturn. Of course if anyone has one to trade or sell or donate, please let me know.

As for the progress, I have made a lot of it elsewhere. I developed a very nice heatsink for the LT1805 thougH I think I may need to find another voltage regulator because I overlooked the output ampage when input is under 15v...it runs only 2.5A which isn't nearly enough. But I'll just swap the two when I find the correct chip.

I did get a very decent battery life off the system. It will have at least 2 hours per battery pack which I'm fine with. I'm also installing import switches and building in extra batteries. This way you can use internal or external power.

Well, that's all there is to say for now. I put up another upate when I get another Saturn and make some more progress

Saturn handheld - modchip

Post by 32-Expert »

Where were you able to find a modchip for the Saturn? That's like find Gold. My Saturn has a modchip but if I attempted to make a handheld, I would use another modchip (of which I don't have). I have two extra saturns (non-modded) which I could attempt to use too.

And I wouldn't want the action replay built in. As long as I made a switch to change between the countries I wouldn't care about the action replay (although mine does have the extra RAM for certain games).

Saturn is known for their 2D games, but most of my favorite Playstation games happen to be 2D. And the Playstation did them very well.

I have 4 Saturn modchips (lol) and I got them from various places. First, iI got one from www.gamegizmo.com but they went bust. Then I got one from Jandaman.com, but he sold out of them. I found a couple illegaly listed on ebay and those were the final ones I bought. The only place I know of that still has them is Rob's site, Family Games. Do a google search for the address.
As for the Action Replay, I have decided against installing it due to the 120+ wiring and because I don't need the cart ALL the time.
As for the new Saturn I bought....It was a model 2!!! Dammit, I have to find a model 1 so I can finish my portable. Anyone want to trade? lol This is a really interesting model 2 as well, doesn't even have the 64-pin chip :O I think it's one of the latest Saturns ever made...
