My opinion: Read the rules and take them seriously. They aren't guidelines as everyone is treating them. They are RULES and as RULES they should be followed. I know I am not a perfect member, but I still think they should be followed. If not, we have a very nice remedy for it. Lock juice. Heck, I don't see the confusion. It isn't politics.

finally somebody agrees. I seriosly dont think he should be a mod. I opened a topic asking if anyone like stephen king and what some good books by him were, and he closed it, saying it was blogging, it was than deleted. also, I emailed him asking a question one time. this was his answer.

Duh, no

he makes me mad :x

the rest of the staff is cool though, and I like them.

I generally save copies of these kinds of posts for just such an occasion (and to back up warnings and bans.)

This is what you wrote, word for word.
ganonbanned wrote:I love stephen king, he is my favorite author. so far I seen part of pet semetary, barely started reading cujo, finished IT (the story, not cujo), shawshank redemption, and the body and different seasons. PS my teacher said that He read something very interesting about how humanity would ultimately die because of overpopulation. anybody Know what this was?
That looks like a blog post to me. ("I did this and bought that i hope i didn't waste $3 is anything rare?" is the gist of it.)

Give it a rest already. Ok, one of your threads got locked. Big whoop. It's not the end of the world, you didn't get in trouble, there isn't a huge problem here.

That thread would have stayed open if you had worded it differently. You made it all one huge, poorly formatted paragraph which looks like a blog. If you had asked questions, and made them stand out, it would have been OK.

And this is to all who say we're tyranncial:

Put away the teenage angst/rebellion. It's not all sunshine and farts being a mod. We have to put up with all you people's crap all the time. You complain when we're too strict. You complain when we're too lax. You complain no matter what we do. We don't get paid for doing this job. We expect nothing in return except for your cooperation. If we got even mroe lax than we are now, the forum would become completely brain dead, with the occasional decent thread amidst a massive sea of garbage. In other words, this cartoon:

http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/1230 ... odsbc8.png

(Obviously this needs to be here, to catch your attention because long paragraphs are boring.)

In short, we do what we feel will help the community as a whole the most. If you don't like it, tell us in a calm, mature, non-hateful manner. (This thread is the opposite.)

I don't want to see any more hateful messages aimed at anyone. Mod, Member, or Admin. Understand?

you have made TEN threads in the last week gannonbanned. half of those were questions that 10 minutes of research would have yeilded an answser

sounded pretty bloggy to me, you talked about the books you have read and a book you bought and how much you spent on it for the first 3/4 of the post then threw in a question at the end

In all fairness, I think that Luc has done a good job cutting back on the scathing sarcasm.

I think this thread represents the critical juncture between Usefulness and Usability:

In general the staff want a Useful forum, where questions are answered promptly and correctly and one that also acts as a store house of good, uncluttered information.

In general the users want a Usable forum where they don't feel restricted to think, express themselves, and get to know other people in a social environment.

Going to either extreme is bad, to strict an environment; users won't want to stay and generate useful content, to lenient an environment; To much lightheartedness to allow for serious discussion to take place, since people would rather stand around and socialize.

The solution is to maintain a balance and for each group to respect the other and try to compromise so the forums function smoothly and meet everyone's needs/wants.

That's just my personal take on the situation.

PS: Google Toolbar is free and has a really accurate spell checker, this post along with all my others are spellchecked with it, which is why my spelling is usually so good.

I agree. At m2k2 (where Klefmung and I are both members), the rules are enforced. STRICTLY. Because it's relatively small, there is a less-formal "Social Topic" where you can post the daily buzz. If you make a thread that's too simple, a mod will lock it and move your post to the social topic so that it can continue to live on.

This is especially good when a topic may only last for a few posts. Y'know, like "Hey everyone! I found this cool thing here…". Discussions don't get deep there, mainly because they aren't supposed to. If you have a topic you're SURE will last more than a few posts, you make a new one.

It would also help to show new members a set of guidelines when they're joining (for example, a simple page with the following (extra-large) text would suffice:

1. Read the rules (with a link to the rules)
2. Learn the rules
3. Follow the rules

…or consequences await.

There.

Before they even join, they know that they are expected to be good, and if they don't want to, well…the rules were advertised to them, and that's grounds for banning/locking/warning. Not having read the rules is no excuse because they should've known what to do.

I remember one member…Kaleigh…something who went around spamming. In my opinion, one post is worth a warning, the second is a ban.

Anyone with me?

This is the last im EVER posting about the stpehen king topic, so dont even try to come up with some answer to this. I posted it on the general chat forum (litterally copied and paster) on rfgeneration and digitpress, and the users there were glad to answer my question, and had a good conversation about SK.

Well this whole thing went from pointless to ridiculous, fast. This isn't even an issue. We're all just catering to the whining of these two and all they do is rag on me. Call it dictorial if you will, but I'm sick and tired of having my hard work bashed. I'm locking this.

@Daguuy, ganonbanned: Get over yourselves. You're not martyrs. You're annoying and everyone else disagreed with you at varying points and degrees.
Daguuy, you're not helping. Not then, not now, not ever.
ganonbanned, stop whining just because you got in trouble. No one pitties your story and most would like to see your namesake fulfilled.

Honestly, I'm not sure why I didn't dismiss imedeately. I must be getting slower...

If anyone would like to dispute the issue of what qualifies as spam and what 42 should cater to, I'm going to ask Ben to submit his opion to the forum through an e-mail tonight and will post it in the rules thread the minute I get a response.

You guys take this place WAY too seriously, though. It is just a forum. If your being this hateful about something so trivial, maybe you need to get out and live life a little more. Just my two cents...
