RE the unlimited bandwidth. They said unlimited, but however I seem to be at 31% of the 999GB meter limit in vDeck. Still, seeings as September's bandwidth thus far has been 1.3 terabytes, I think we're OK.

I have some stuff planned to put the unlimited bandwidth to the test!

RE topic closing and what not, we should try and be a little more relaxed with it. Forum 42 is meant to be a place where people can have fun and go nuts (within reason) If we moderate it too much it loses focus of its original goal. There's zillions of forums out there, why do people come here? While we might not know the reasons WHY, we can certainly guess WHY NOT, and that could be too strict of forums.

Keep it gaming related, I don't care what your dog ate for breakfast or if you found a date to prom. But if a person posts about their thoughts and what not, we should see what other people think. (let the topic build) Perhaps said person has trouble expressing themselves elsewhere and finds this a good outlet. We can't stomp that down without just cause.

And remember - UNLIMITED BANDWIDTH! (allegedly)

Guys, this is kinda pathetic. Now I'm not a moderator, just a user, like the vast majority of us; fortunately, however, I am one who has faith in our staff here that they will do what's right. Sure; like all of us, there are times when I'd like to have more authority and change some slight things, but overall, this forum's staff does a good job, and they shouldn't be challenged, ESPECIALLY in such a rude, juvenile, hateful manner. If you can't vocalize your argument in a respectful, CIVIL manner, simply don't post.

And daguuy, there are plenty of forums where the rules are more lax. Have you seen them? They fall apart. Although it seems you (and others) want to be a part of that; then do so. Just not here.

Sorry if this post qualifies as "playing moderator", but I've had that on my mind for a while now, and I had to get it off my chest.

*Checks grammar and spelling for 1 minute* We're good! :D

actually i've been to lots of forums and this is by far the strictest
then you have never been to the facepunch forums, they have bots that will automatically ban you for using certian words, such as l33t or lol. im not kidding either
the mods are mean to me because i see how insanely strict and unreasonable the moderation of F42 is. i push your (the mod's) buttons because you push mine. i used to care if i got banned but this place has gotten too rotten and just not a very freindly place. i portablize and help other people portablize but can't do much else like talk about whatever because it's always being locked. the mods are too obsessed with calling stuff spam and blogging and it's just not cool.
thats just total bull and you know it. all the threads i have locked have been with good reason and every single lock has been diserved or requested by the topic starter. most of the time when we lock threads its because they have been hopelessly derailed (by people like you more often than not), have turned into flamewars, or have strayed into subject matters not appropriate or allowed on these boards. there are rules for a reason.
i'm not some under-developed douche bag, i know what i'm talking about
mebe not underdeveloped... and i really doubt at this point you have any idea what your talking about. us mods (and there arent that many of us) have to deal with all the crap you people come up with all the hundreds of active members or however many of you there are plus bots and everythign else! if you think you can do better or you think we are incredible tyrants and insufferable GO AWAY AND START YOUR OWN FREAKING FORUM! we arent going to massively restructure the site and forums and change our rules and everything just because one or two people dont like the way we run things.

That would suck, I couldn't belong to a forum that strict. I say that we ignore the pleas to change rules and that and just keep everything the way it is (for now).

In my opinion, Luc is kind of a hardass, but he gets things done. Just because he doesn't want to put up with your babbling and daily routine everyday, doesn't mean he's doing a bad job. (Even if he uses irreverent, uneeded sarcasm persistently.) Anyway, Luc and the rest of the staff reserve the right to close your thread, ban you etc. as a moderator, so put up with it. I've never heard a more annoying bunch of babies.

i completely agree. F42 is for having fun and sharing ideas and stuff and the mods should allow that kind of stuff

Here's what I think: I've been here since the begaining of this forum and I was at the last one. I dont have 2000+ post's but Im here everyday. This site has grown a lot in the last 2 years and there has been some changes, some for the good and some for the bad. I also understand we need Mods and I think the mods are doing a great job. Everyone needs to take a step back and look around. Just ask yourself "Why do I come here everyday"? There are 2 answers to that question.. 1) I come here for all the great information that this board has... 2) Because of the friends that I have made here... So look at answer #2 and sit back and think about it...

Here's my solution: Ok, forum 42 is for things that dont fit anyplace else, right... Why not make another fourm for a place that we can talk about anything? The same rules would would still be inafect but we could post what ever... It would be a non tech fourm but you still can not post (porn, roms or anything else thats against the rules) it would be a place for freinds to hang out.

What do you think? Just try to remember answer #2 and dont turn this place into other forums that suck. I like it here and I want this place to be the best forum out there. Just my 2cents....

With that solution, any misc. related questions could fall over to technical Q&A, then devouting F42 to all off topic stuff (with some ability for meaningful discussion of course, no blogy spam and such) :P

Another silent but deadly post by Dave. :P

I agree with you for the most part, but there is a limit. Porn, almost all of us are under 18/21, making that illegal (and far past PG rated), and Roms are illegal in any case.

I agree there is a limit but Im not saying anything goes. Just a forum that is alittle more relaxed. It will still need mods to make sure it doesn't get out of control. It would just be a place to hang out and talk about stupid stuff. So lets take a vote and see if everyone likes this idea. What do you think Ben? Also if this was to happen what would we call it? Heres a idea call it "time out" ,meaning taking some time out from working on portables. Remember its just a idea so dont go flaming it, Im just throwing out ideas.

You know what I've read all of this, nearlly every post and quite a few are to an extreme view. I'm going to put this as simplly and blluntly as possible.

Ben is correct 100%, ofcourse that's because this is his forum. Second we need to lock some threads, even Ben recognized that need and that most topics that are not VG related shouldn't be here.

I've see a forum that has what really I think would fit Dkap01's solution. Check out anime-yume.org, they have something I'm sure would fit every situation, it's called a "SPAM forum". Problem is that we don't want to have that kind of bloat or tolerate it. So we remove spam in general.

And well I'm there SPAM! Spam is anything that is against the rules (talking about ROMS, politics, or religion), is a single word post, one line posts that don't add to the thread ("That's awsome dude!"), blogging as we don't care about you and your girlfriend's situation.

I don't think these are too difficalt to follow, in fact these are damn fair rules. If you don't want to, guess what, leave.

P.S. Madness' post in this thread is a good example of a single line post that doesn't add to the thread in a constructive or positive manner.

I don't see any problem with the way the moderators clean these forums. They are neither to strict nor to lenient.

Anyone remember that 8 or 9 page discussion on Evolution vs Creationism? That discussion was strictly against the rules, but the Mods allowed it because the arguements were presented in an intelligent, well-thought manner (with the exception of XPC's), and everyone remained (relatively) civil.

In all likelihood, each and every one of us gravitated to Benheck.com because of our mutual interest in gaming or hardware of some kind. That leaves most of us predisposed to talk about technological manners in our free time, on Forum42. I would go so far as to say; if you aren't inclined to think technologically you shouldn't be here, because it indicates that you have not grasped any of the fundamental principles of electronics.

My last statement was a little radical- I know- but just food for thought.

gannon wrote:Exactly, over the past year the general discussion forum has over run this site. We the staff have stated many times that the entire reason for this lockdown on spam is to get the site back on track the way it should, portables first, the rest 2nd. If you don't like it go somewhere else to talk about other things and rant, we don't care. This was caused by the large decline in the amount of actually helpful topics and replies given in the portable forums. Many sincere questions have been getting drowned in all the off topic discussions.
Rename it "Game Related Discussion" so it fits with your idea of what it should be about.
