Major problem.

Post by Psy »

Hi guys,

big, big problem. Got the PSoneP finished and all was well, but now, for seemingly no reason the main board no longer powers up. I initially suspected the battery was gone or some of my wiring had come loose, but upon testing it with the original power supply found that it must be a problem with the board. When I switch it on, I don't even get the vaguest signs of life from the board, have tested the switch with a multimeter and that still works, so I'm at a loss for what has occured.

Any ideas?

That exact same thing happened to me with my ps one. I shorted the fuses near the power plug and it fixed it! The fuses are really small and are on top of the board right after the power plug. You can find out if this is the problem by checking to see if voltage is getting past the fuse.

How are they labelled on the board.

The closest components to the power supply are FB001 and PS600, is it either of these?

I dont know what they are labeled. But if you could take a pic of the ps one board i could circle the fuses in paint. You could use tinypic.com to host it I think.

Edit: Does the LED light come on? If it does then its not the fuse.

I have the same problem, but I don't use the power input, i patch dierectly to the 5v regulator. The regulator still works, and my cooling fan is patched off that, and its runs. I get no LED or audio/video AT ALL! I don't see why the fuse would be in line there, but I can try it too.

Sorry for the awful picture quality, but I only have my mobile phone to take pictures at the moment.

Boy, I dont know about that. There could be two sets of fuses. But if the fan runs off the power regulator, it might be the power switch. Check and see if power goes to the switch.

Is this the area you wanted a photo of or do you need more of the top of the board?

Sorry, but that pic is just too cruddy for me to tell where the fuses are. But you could find the fuses by checking for voltage on the stuff near the plug. I would check out the stuff I have pointed at for voltage, they could be fuses but I cant tell.

If theres +7.5V on the front end then check the other side and if theres no voltage, jump it and see if the PS one works.

No continuity on the one you pointed to with the red arrow, bypassed it with a little bit of wire and it powers on. You are the original lifesaver man!

It won't cause any problems bypassing it, will it?

Now since your bypassing the fuse make sure you dont put too many volts through it again, or it WILL fry your screen. Congrats on the working screen, though. :D

11.7V isn't too much is it? It's the lowest I can go and have the PSone and screen(Gamecube) working without having to use seperate batterys for each.

Am pretty sure a 7805 can handle 7v - ~36v. Im pretty sure you'll be good.
