I'd say go with either the Zen or the iPod. Reason being that both have a simalar and really easy to use interface. Zen I've heard are really durable machines, so if you're going to put the MP3 player to work that would be a good choice. Ipod is really a good choice from the stand point that there are a ton and I mean a not of accessories built for them.
And a heads up to those interested. Walmart is selling XtremeMac AirPlay^2 FM Transmitters for the ipod nanos, $30 (out the door, no rebates).

actually zen are hard drive MP3 players, and hard drives are relatively fragile. If you drop it the needle could break (mine did 1 week after purchase).Sparkfist wrote:I'd say go with either the Zen or the iPod. The ipod is sturdy and well supported.

sansa E series mp3 player, they come in 2 4 and 6gb capacities and are just slightly bigger than an ipod nano and a lot less money (180$ for the 6gb i think)
Visit us at Portablesofdoom.org
Well any hard drive MP3 player has the problem of "if you drop it it will break." Not all Creative MP3 players are hard drive, and unless they solved the problem with cracked screens on the Nano you better be careful.
The only additional thing I can say is that a friend of mine has a nice layers system for protecting his iPod (4G) when he's working. Namely he throws it into a camera case, screen facing him. That way if he bumps in to anything the screen or his iPod doesn't get damaged.

unfortunately i cant get a sansa as they arent released in Australia and i dont want to purchase it from overseas as it would not have a warranty.
I tend to be leaning more towards ipod as the range of accessories is much larger than others...
Does anyone have a zen micro? whats it like?
Does anyone have a new nano? is it better than the old?

Zen Micro. My girlfriend got one. They're amazing, and they hold more music than she could download (8 gigs is way more than she'll ever fill before she gets a new one).
Plus they have OLED screens. And they glow blue. Get a black zen micro. They contain THE MOST pleasure you will ever get just by looking at something.
Aside from their looks, they're a really good mp3 player, with a really easy to use file upload system, a built in usb drive, and a customizable menu, which is really easy to use/customize. You can also upload pictures and change the background on the AMAZING OLED screen.
Ipods, they're ok. Zens, they're not ok. They're perfect.

Zen. Zen. Zen. Zen. Zen.
The Zune is new and, if I know MS, buggy. The iPod requires iTunes, which is fine if you're an Mac user, and a pain in the ass if you use Windows.
The Zen acts as a portable drive. One that just happens to play music, listen to (and record off) the radio and encode mp3 tracks from a line-in source. It's my obvious choice. I'd go with either the 8gb micro or 20gb sleek <-my choice). Either way, it's money well spent...

I will make no suggestion, about what to get, but PLEASE don't just choose based on comments made in this thread.
Go out on the 'net and find all specs on the devices. Should be easy (http://www.creative.com and http://www.apple.com). Go to stores and try them out. Find people willing to lend you theirs for a few hours and mess around. Don't forget: you may love everything BUT the process of loading media onto it, so ask someone to show you how that works too.
Overall, the most important factor is your mental state. If you convince yourself that you like one before you buy it, you'll probably gloss over the quirks and problems. Pick whichever one YOU think is best, even if it seems to go against all of your research.
