disclaimer: i dont agree with anything i just typed, but i'm just trying to make a point
if that was directed towards me, to quote myself, i actually said "you pay for what you get out of it." and i am merely bringing up prices because i dont think totakan has a full grasp on the prices of what he is looking at for a hobby.

Actually paint costs $40-70 depending on how much they want to rip you. Air (compressed air, NOT nitrous) $1 per 1k PSI, or free depending how nice the field is.

You could use CO2 also, but that would have less consistanty, or if you have a higher end gun (not a Tippman, Spyder, etc).

I personally use a 68 in 3k PSI carbon fiber tank on my Smart Parts Ion (which is below).

nice gun, i actually have a 2005 Shocker (blue).

And at my local field i can get a box of 2000 evil for 35, and the field pass doesnt come with free air, but you can get an all day air pass if you want.

About the above posts against Laser Tag (can't quote 'em all):
1) 4 Guns+ vests=$600=Airsoft for 6 months. You forget the fact that (even by that flawed statement) the Laser Tag equipment lasts for >5 years (pessimistic view), much cheaper, don't you agree?
2) No pain. So what? this just means you can go on longer :D
3) Cheap 30 dollar guns that only have 20 feet range:
I personally don't own commercial guns (currently, that is), but the Tiger line (marketed as a TOY, mind you) called Lazer Tag Team Ops has a range of (lock on working, much longer possible) 100 feet. It goes much farther though, this is in complete sunlight.
4) Also, 600 dollar comment: You're good with electronics, make your own :D milestag is 100 percent open source, allowing infinite possiblities for custom guns.
Shhh! I'm not officially back yet.

i'm pretty sure that you won't be playing laser tag for 5 years. As with most teens, things are fun for a few months then they move on. I played paintball all of last summer and airsoft a lot this summer, both of them got boring. And pain adds a 4th dimension to the game, this is undeniable.

Yeah, you probably won't, but it's still a better investment then paintball or airsoft.

i say they are all suck! paintball is too damn expensive, lazertag lacks tactil feedback and doesnt impress me much, airsoft is weak in general, i would like to see BB gun wars, full body armor using copper or steel rounds, woo!

How many times have you almost crapped your pants playing a video game, where there is also no pain?
Laser tag is fun, because anyone can play, whether or not they like pain. Just find a good indoor arena that is cheap and you're set. The place I go to has a screen outside of the arena that shows real-time scores, too. If only it could show where the players are, that would be awesome. And you can get kicked out of the place I go to if you cover your sensors, and you need both hands on the gun to fire, making it even harder to cheat.

And, yes, the ones you buy at wal-mart are crap.
Hey I think I have been to the one you go to that place is fun and pretty well priced! But anyways... I prefer airsoft because 1. It's cheaper 2. Everyone and their grandma owns a airsoft 3. It hurts but not too much (Note: When my friends and I play it hurts quite a bit because all of us have 285 fps or higher guns and some of us have really really nice guns...) 4. I can do it on my time at a public park for free

But that doesn't mean I don't enjoy a good round or two of paintball or lasertag! Shooting in general is fun and I enjoy it.

Yeah, I made one for a friend. It's level of difficulty depends on the person, as usual. For me, it was easier to buy the boards and my friend (with a vac-forming table) made the case. Of course, the hard way is to solder mount that PIC onto a self-etched board.
