Lol, I know. When I was posting it all the letters in the first row were overlaping. It was quite a jumble.

Well, yesterday was GOOD news - today is BAD news! :x

I had everything working just GREAT...that is until I tried to put my Radica in a new case... :roll:

Everything was fitted into the case and it looked fine! :?

I powered on the radica with my "Streets of Rage" cart in there and NOTHING! :shock: :shock:

All I get now is a blank screen? :cry:

I'm going to go test my cart in my mates "REAL" MegaDrive to see if the cart is fried (probably not as it takes a LOT to kill a MD cart...) :?

Worst case scenario is that one of the tracks on the mainboard got 'cracked' as the board has been subject to some slight flexibility during the re-housing into the new case... :?

So I might have to do the modding process ALL OVER AGAIN - GROAN! :shock: :cry:

(Dammit, why couldn't it go as smoothly as when I built my JAMMA to T.V. interface! Ah well... :roll: )

==EDIT==

The JAP Radica is fixed now (completely rebuilt the MOD I did) and works fine - shame it killed my "Streets of Rage" cart...ah well!

I'm thinking that when I get back (or maybe even before then) I'm gonna rip open a Genesis and build a JAMMA-TV interface using the controller sockets and video encoder from it. Probably just wire up a microATX power supply or something too.

I can understand using the controller ports from an old Genny for the controllers on your JAMMA rig... :wink:

But why do you need a video encoder? :?:

Most JAMMA boards output a good NTSC RGB signal...so all you need is a JAMMA edge connector and some veroboard to build the interface with. :)

Oh and a whole TON of wire of course! LOL! :lol:

If you like I can email you some scanned images of my interface notes... :wink:

I didn't use Genny controller ports...just a 9-way DB9 socket/plug for the A/V out and some 15-way DB9 sockets/plugs for the pads. 8)

Similar idea really though... :roll:

Then you just need an RGB capable T.V. (I use SCART as I'm in Europe) 8)

The only thing that you probably won't need in my notes is about the NAMCO 'extended' JAMMA harness used by Soul Edge / Calibur (my two JAMA boards). :?

Anyhow, I'll stop now cos we're going off topic...send me a PM if you're interested. :wink:

Well, NTSC RGB is a contradiction of terms. It's 60Hz, if that's what you mean...

And the point of using a video encoder is so you don't NEED an RGB-capable TV. And seeing as I live (most of the time) in America where SCART does not exist, I kinda need to encode the video first :P

I was just gonna use the Genesis pads too, actually. They're like 50 cents and you can rewire them to not be multiplexed (I mean, there are 9 pins and you have 8 buttons and a common...) And since JAMMA technically only supports 3 buttons anyway...

Indeed!

Yup @SgtBowhack I did indeed mean 60Hz RGB...just sorta' said it wrong... :roll: :oops:

Ah, O.K. then - I understand about the video encoder, as most USA Tellies aren't RGB capable like you said (unless you're willing to pay $$$ for some rediculously expensive SONY stuff!) :shock:

Yup, Genny pads are cheap no matter WHERE you are in the world! :D

@JackFrost22 - I use emoticons because that's what they're there for! :roll:

It's kind of like saying to someone who's a ski instructor "Man you like Ski's!" LOL! :lol:

I can probably get the video encoder and the ports out of a $2 broken Genesis so I figure that'd be worthwhile to me :) I've got a case sitting at home waiting for me to finish the darn thing... I just never got any video encoder working.

My largest TV (that I myself own) is 20", but I think I might get a 24" Sanyo flatscreen with RGB in. I'd probably still hook up arcade boards via composite though :P

BTW, by that analogy, you're now an emoticon instructor! Please show us the way :wink:

It's all about the Commodore 1084 monitor. You can get that screen here in North America and it supports composite, S-Video, and anjlog or digital RGB. Only 13" but looks excellent with an s-video input. I have yet to make an RGB adapter for any of my systems but have the components needed to make an Xbox one. The 1084S is the same but with stereo speakers instead. I Paid $20 (cad) could have got it for $10 on sale the next day but I didn't want to risk it being snatched up. I've also put it beside my PC monitor on it's side and used it for vertical shooters.

For S-Video input you need to make a custom cable because it uses 2 RCA connections instead of the now standard S-video. For RGB you need to hook up to a Genesis/Atari controller style port.

Look even Nintendo mentions hooking up to these monitors:

I have a Commodore 1902 monitor which supports both RGB and composite. It is also 13 inches, and heavy, but it is nice....
Warranty-Voiding fun!
