Either way, I am a Nintendo fanboy, & will not object to their ways & teachings. :P
It says DC, you are reading it wrong.

OK, w/ some foil & electrical tape to jump the fuse, & cutting the connector off of an old 12V AC Adapter & sticking the bare wire into the snes mobo, I got life! Now the question is:

What makes a good heat sync for the 7805?

Hey, has anyone ever gotten a piracy message? I tried to play my (legal & original) copy of Super Metroid, & I got an anti-piracy notice instead of the game. Anyone know WTF's up?

EDIT: Don't worry, I'm not keeping it on for TOO long w/o a heat sink; just around 15 or so seconds...

More EDIT: Should I use <a href="http://www.radioshack.com/product/index ... h">this</a>?

Why? Spend twice as much and you can get almost 3x the capacity in half the space with this

I got the same message on super metroid. It could be super metroid itself.

I only have $5 w/ me. (that's probably enough to get a heatsync & a more power-efficient 7805)

Hm, maybe I should hold off 2 weeks (when my mom gets back, I have access to my Wii-fund-savings-thing (currently around $120), & when I can walk to RadioShack)

...Wow. This could be a problem. Super Metroid is my favorite game of all time. In fact, that's like 1/3 the reason I'm building the portable! Crap, does ANYONE know what's causing this!?

EDIT: If no one knows, maybe I can email Nintendo of America. Usually they don't help w/ things like this, but they have proved resourceful to me sometimes :P)

i remember the same problem a few years back, except with super mario world. i found out somewhere that it happens b/c the pin that is connected to the anti-piracy chip on the cart gets dirty, and doesn't make a connection sometimes.i fixed this by taking an ear cleaner and dipping it in alcohol, and rubbing it on the contacts.i tried making a SNESp too once, with an aluminum case from rat shack. i covered the insides of it w/ duct tape to insulate it, and put in the mobo. it would have been great, if the seperate SPU board didnt stick out a 1/4 inch. oh well. i found i could have fixed it by removing that fuse on the left side, and cutting off the unused PCB. good luck though!

Are you using a PSOne screen? If so, you do know you DON'T need a heatsink, or even a 7805 on the SNES board; just wire the leads up to the right 7805 on the PSOne screen board.

No, I'm using this (I think 5") screen that was replaced from my father's SUV. I have no idea if it works (though everything seems to be in order).

What I DO need though is a juicy 12V battery to power the thing! (& the SNES :P)

I have no idea how to do a LED mod on it, & I don't think it'd be a good idea (Even though I've already taken it apart to the point where I could lift up the glass of the LCD & reassembled it)

I might try taking off the 2 PCB's (that are located directly on the back of the screen) to see if there's a way to get to the lamp...

Anyways, I played a lot of not-emulated Star Fox for the first time in a long while today! You know, the emulators could never really get that echo affect right...

EDIT: ...& yeah, I just had some dust inbetween the mobo & the cartridge connectors :P

OK, I tested the screen (w/o a video signal, but I could still tell it was fine; no dead pixels or anything), & it works fine. I've compiled a list of things I currently need:

-case
-12V battery
-Soldering Iron (Lost my old one)
-Solder (My solder is at my mother's house)
-better 7805 Regulator
-Regulator heat sink
-speakers
(Anything else I need I can find in old electronics, or..somewhere...)

More to come! (Probably tonight :P)

There's no such thing as a better 7805. A 7805 is a 7805 and will always have it's linear 1A-1.5A handle.
