Its called your imagination. I continually analyse my environment and thing off all the things that could harm me, in hope, to avoid them.

Hey shut up Wonka! :P I already said I was sorry man... >.>

I don't really know what to think. I've never seen a ghost or a UFO, but my mother and stepfather have BOTH seen a UFO at a certain point in their lives. When my stepfather was in the Navy, he was looking up in the sky (for one reason or another), and he saw what looked like it could be a shooting star. But as it flew at a relatively fast speed across the sky, it all of a sudden made a sharp 90 degree angle turn and instantly flew off in a different direction.

I don't remember this story very well, I suppose I could ask my mother to tell me again, but she's in bed right now, so I'll do my best. In 1980-something, my mother and her family were driving home from some concert late at night, when they all saw a huge tube-like floating object in the sky with two red lights on both ends. It was flying very slowly, and was making a low humming sound. After they gazed at it for a while, it all of a sudden disappeared into the night... This was in Farewell, Michigan. When they got home, they called everyone they knew in the area and many of them saw it as well. My mother told me this story several years ago. About a year or so after she told me, I was watching one of those voiced-over educational CD things (You know, with the pictures 'n stuff?) on the computer about space. (It was part of my home-schooling.) On the CD labeled "Space Speculation," there was a chapter about UFOs, which included several pictures and drawings of different "sightings." I flipped out when I saw exactly what my mother described to me on that CD... Apparently that same UFO also traveled through Wisconsin. Someone took a picture of the area where it was seen, and drew in what the UFO looked like. I dug out the CD and copied the text and picture from that part of the CD to show you guys. This is the picture, with the caption underneath it.
That Space CD thingy wrote: Image
In the mid-1980s, several police officers saw something in the sky near Belleville, Wisconsin. Although radar tracked the object, no one has been able to explain what it was. This picture was taken near Belleville, and the UFO has been added by an artist to give an idea of what people saw.
Here's what I know. One, too many honest people saw it to be lying about it and two, by definition it had to be a UFO, at least to the general public. For all we know, it could have been a government test or something. Hey, a lot of what we think are "UFO" sightings could be government tests gone bad. But whatever it was, it was there in plain sight...

I find these topics a fascinating focus for studies, indeed. I'm talking about the forum threads and the responses given by members, not the subject matter.

Logically speaking, an abundance of alien life is very probable, but the time during which this life acts intelligently is random. Our ability to communicate into space has existed for a few decades. What is alien signals were reaching us one hundred years ago, or a thousand, or a mere million- tiny pinpricks of time during the lifetime of the universe, but times when we would not have been listening.

UFO's are unlikely to be alien craft, though one cannot be certain. The chances of an alien race visiting Earth are minimal due to the distances involved and the problems listed in the above paragraph. Complex reflections, computer errors, intricate weather effects, experimental aircraft, and the effects of alcohol present better explanations for these events.

If anyones story takes place immediately after waking up at night, it can only be attributed to a waking dream. I myself saw a giant hamster after waking at night during my childhood. Knowing the incredible complexity of the human mind, it would be illogical to assume the apparition was a ghost. Remember that all structures make sounds, and these sounds are more easily heard during the night when interfering activities do not cover them up. Hearing bumps in the night and shouting "ghost" makes about as much sense as stepping on a creaky stair and shouting "ghost."

What I find particularly amusing is when camera lights reflect off dust particles, and people declare the presence of "spirit balls," or perhaps "ectoplasma."

Because of those realities, I do believe in the existence of alien life, I'm rather skeptical of UFO's as alien craft, and I'm extremely skeptical in such things as ghosts.

Has anybody read the Xenogenesis books by Octavia E. Butler? In her books, the aliens have a ship that is alive. Everything in it has a different job. Maybe the "UFO's" people see are real. That would explain how they could travel billions of years without dying.

No, that could be true, but its the fact that the light they would see may not even show earth existing here yet! Hence the reason that no UFO's have visited Earth.

I have chosen not to believe anything 100% (even my own exsistence).

I remember when i was little I looked at a picture painted by my Grandma's friend. (I don't know anything about this person.) The picture was of a woman. I remember as I glanced at it a transperant face and lower body turned from facing me and quickly faded away. Now my Grandma was dead when this happened. So I the thought of it being my Grandma checking up on me did cross my mind, but i quickly put the whole incident aside for later.

Thinking back on it, if you where a ghost checking on family, but did not want to scare them hiding around the picture is a good idea. :? But it just could have been my imagination.

Now even if there is no such things as ufo's that does not mean there are not alien lifeforms. Technically a single celled lifeform can be an alien. Even if the distance of travel was not an issue (for us or an alien race) chances are kinda slim due to the number of planets.

What I can't stand are video saying that a planet would have to be like Earth to sustain life. What life on this planet requires to live maybe different than what life else where requires.

But UFOs are usually alleged to be controlled directly by aliens :)

Lots of times when I was younger I'd see bizarre things. Could there be aliens in our universe? I think probably not, but they weren't specifically excluded when the universe was created (Read Genesis, I'm a christian, doh :P)

Well, you just invited the onset of a religious arguement ~_~

The difference between what you think and what I think is; what you think is based on blind faith, and what I think is based on mathematics. I like to imagine that I respect both perspectives.

Did you know that the first observed UFO's were feared to be highly advanced soviet aircraft? The vehicles resembled "half of a saucer" or "a flying wing," and were thought to be built based on captured german blueprints at the end of WWII.

That's interesting. I've also read stories of astronauts sighting UFOs, but what they actually were is anyone's guess. Also, some people have actually sighted UFOs but they actually turned out to be launched test missiles :)

The only reported UFO sighting which actually managed to send shivers down my spine was a video taken by Apollo astronauts of a strange, distant object. The object had a basic geometry featuring a cylinder with three large saucers equally spaced along its length. The nature of the photography made it look gaseous and an earie green color.

Marshall, if you look at it from a religous point of view. Why would god, out an infinate amount of planets and Stars, make only 1 that can support life?

Isn't no religion a rule? Also if it isnt.

You know why he didn't? Because he doesn't exist. At least not in the way that people believe he does.

No religious discussion. This thread's barely allowed in the first place, so don't push it closer to the edge.
