By the way, with some work, this mod should be possible with any third party controller, but I have only tried it with this one. So, if you're getting a brand new controller to perform the mod, this is the one you should get... you know, to be safe.
Edit: Also, one very important thing to remember, is that while I used the little C-stick board and the C-stick, you can easily swap the C-stick itself out for the "good" gamecube joystick; it will slip right on to the base. You can also use a PSX/PS2 joystick, but I hate them, myself. I only used the C-stick because my cousin chewed the rubber off the other Gamecube joystick...
