I myself like the effect of silence at the beggining, and a sudden noise, which is an ownage solo!

Painkiller by Judas priest had a pretty awsome solo, good drum solo too

also a live version of Fight fire with fire by Metallica as a really fast dual solo and Rust in Peace by Megadeth is good

but then again most good metal songs have good and fast solo's in them

:| Err, what? I can say what I actually do think is the best guitar solo of all time. You know that it's good. And I have heard quite a few guitar solos (and I also play them).

Anyways, I thought of another. The solo at the end of Hotel California - The Eagles.

OH, and Star Spangled Banner - Hendrix. :P

I couldn't say what the best guitar solo of all time is, as I havn't heard every guitar solo from every song with one. Therefore this topic is poorly named and I really don't have a favorite guitar solo anyways...

The End by the Beatles - AWESOME

And the guitar solo/electric organ solo in Roundabout by Yes is pretty freakin awesome too.

Oh and just about anything on Guitar Hero!

I think I would have to say the solo I like the most is the one in Stairway to Heaven. Now don't groan about it being the No. 1 most overplayed song in the world. The solo, for me, is amazing, and I'm in the process of learning it. And having plenty of difficulties!

@ Jesus: Victor Wooten has got to be the greatest bassist ever. If you watch his videos, his fingers fly so fast.

Most of the solos that people are naming are actually just instrumentals (they have drums, etc. behind them), so here are my favorite instrumental pieces:

1. The end of Comfortably Numb by PF (greatest. piece. ever.)
2. Shine on You Crazy Diamond (All parts) again by PF
3. The middle of When the Levee Breaks by Zep
4. Couldn't Stand the Weather by Stevie Ray Vaughn
5. Texas Flood by Stevie Ray Vaughn
6. Maggot Brain by Funkadelic
7. Little Wing by Jimi Hendrix
8. About three minutes into Sweet Child of Mine by Guns n Roses
9. Layla by Derek and the Dominoes
10. Somewhere in the middle of Knocking on Heaven's Door, by Guns n Roses

I could go on all day...

Sorry if I listed more than one :D. I get carried away by this kind of stuff. All the songs up there are pretty good, I recommend them to everyone.

I get it mixed up.... the album was Master of the Puppets, song was Master of Puppets, deal with it.
