Li-ion battery pack voltage

Post by SuperZeldaBros »

I'm looking at a way to power my NOAC portable. I want it to be small and relativly light, so I figured Lithium-Ion batteries would be the way to go. I'm using a Yobo NOAC and a Hip Gear 2.6" screen. The battery pack I was considering is this one.
However, as the Yobo requires 5 volts and that battery is 7.2, I will use a switching regulator to conserve battery life.

My question: Will that battery pack stay above 7 volts as it discharges, or will it go below 7 volts (dropping out of the regualtor)?

Lithium Ion's will work.

They have a very steady discharge curve, and will run out before they drop below 7 volts.

If you really wanted to make sure it wouldn't run out, you could get a low dropout regulator. Also, those batteries look alright, but you can get a better deal here at Power101. The shipping is killer, but it is cheaper in the end. Go with what you want, though. It is your project.

Have you used those exact batteries before? I was looking at them, but I know that generic batteries can be a little "optimistic" with their mAh ratings.

Thanks

Nope I've used several batteries from there before, and they are every ounce as good as they say they are. I was skeptical about them too, because of the low price.

Thanks for the replies!

I'll probably use a low dropout regulator.

I like the one with the charge meter on it, then I can tell people my portable has 2 LCD displays. :)
