I was wondering..

I'm new here and to system modding period..and I would like to make a ps2p (definatly not anytime soon, as I understand they are extremely hard) but I was wondering if anybody had any materials I could read up on because would never rip apart a ps2 unless I knew what I was doing..( I was hoping to get started in -if this is in anyway realistic I don't know- 6 months or so.)
any help would be appreciated..

Basically this website, www.portablesofdoom.org , and www.benwiki.tk . There are other good ones, but those are the three best. Oh, and www.freewebs.com/segasonicfan , and of course, Ben's PS2p page.

Also, you may wanna start with an easier portable and work up to PS2. You'll learn more about how to solder and stuff, so then your PS2p should be easier to make.

Personally, I think the most learning can be had through experience. Reading a thousand articles and forum posts about building a PS2P is helpful, but learning all about the art of portablising through building Nes-on-a-chip systems, N64Ps, PS1Ps, and eventually the 7th gen systems, the gamecube and PS2. Build a simple portable first, like a NOAC (see NES forum for details), then move on up through the generations of systems, and by then, you'll already know everything you need to. These projects require research, but they will be VERY well worth it.

Thanks..I think that would be a better idea..start small..Is the book a worthy purchase? I was thinking of buying it..but was wondering how much good it would do me..

I think it is worth it. It will teach you how to solder and basics about electronics. However most of the information is on the internet, you just have to search.

The book is pretty good, especially for learning how to solder and a tools list; however, I recommend NOT doing a portable out of Ben's book; for me, it was harder than it needed to be, and also cost too much. But as the others (and myself) said, do an NOAC portable and work your way up to the seventh-gen stuff.
