I bought this completed NESp (minus case) from vgcollector666. I've had quite a few problems with it since I got it. None are his fault. Just wanted to get that out of the way right off.
Anyways, my current problem. I've gotten everything working right but this last thing. Whenever I push more than one button at a time, it acts as if I've pushed Start. This includes the D-pad. Other than that, everything's fine. But it's impossible to play just about every game without pushing a direction and a button at the same time. Argh.
I should mention that the controller I'm using is in pristine condition, and I don't think it had ever been taken apart before I did so recently. I didn't change anything in there though, just had a look. The controller wires are soldered to the board. Well, at least the old controller's was. I just spliced this one in. I made sure to keep the colors correct, etc. My wiring is good, I've checked. vgcollector666 said he didn't have any controller problems before sending it, so I'm assuming all the wires are soldered to the right places on the board.
Any suggestions?
I tried to search for this problem but couldn't come up with anything. Doesn't mean it hasn't happened before, just means the search function sucks when you're searching for such common words as "start", "two buttons", etc.

Try the Sticky

On the NES controller, notice how there are some globs where buttons seem to meet and go to other pins. Like say the three buttons merge and become one under the dark green partsof the NES controller PCB. Well Sorry this is hard to explain, but I have fixed mine by breaking the connection between the two wires on the blob closest to the right (near a and b) on the controller. If I find a suitable controller picture, I may be able to explain. Please note that when I did this mod, I was only using the NES controller for its buttons, and not for the data line encoding...

Oh. Nuts. That hadn't been posted when I checked the Sticky before searching. Anyways, if you get that picture illustrating what you mean, that'd help. I think I know what you did, but I want to be sure. Plus you said you're not using the controller for the data line. Which means this may not help me entirely.

I have this same EXACT problem with my NOAC's. Its often intermittent for me also.Kyosho wrote: Anyways, my current problem. I've gotten everything working right but this last thing. Re: yobo/controller problem
Tell me, were you trying to use a regular NES controller or the yobo controller? Perhaps it's some conflict with original NES controllers. I've got a yobo controller here. I'll try that, but I have little hope.redruM_0381 wrote:I have this same EXACT problem with my NOAC's. Its often intermittent for me also.Kyosho wrote: Anyways, my current problem. Edit: By the way, I've tried a few more things. I decided to try switching the wires around a bit. Musical wires, if you will. I thought perhaps the Data and Clock lines had been mixed up , so I tried that. Then I tried...well.. a ton of combinations. Nothing helped. Oh well.

Okay, I've solved my problem. It seems that the White wire (power) wasn't properly connected to the board. Once it was, my problem went away. Took me a LONG time to figure this out, seeing as it was under hotglue and I assumed it was in there good.
I've completed the portable now. It doesn't exactly have a case, per se. More like.. all the parts are hotglued together to form a basic shape. It looks crazy, but it works. I'll be working on a proper case for it. But for now, it'll do.
